Enhancing the Undergraduate Experience Through A Collaborative Wiki Exercise ...Iain Doherty
This is a presentation that I gave at the ICEL 2012 conference in Hong Kong. The presentation outlines a randomized control trial that examined the an intervention to have nursing students learn discipline specific terms through a collaborative wiki exercise.
Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem found in trigger material.PBL enables the students to consolidate their knowledge , stimulate their creativity , critical thinking and communication and problem solving skills.

Enhancing the Retention of Lectured-Information for Higher Education Students...Dr. Amarjeet Singh
Note-taking is an important skill to be taught to the
learners so that it can be used as a tool for them to perceive
and retrieve the lectured information; especially during
Theory courses dealing with intense information. Keeping this
in mind I tailored my study which could examine whether
Note-Taking, Note-making and Note-reviewing can improve
the retention skills of my learners and whether these retention
skills can be later used by them to recall the retained–
information. I tried to measure these retention skills by using
customized retention tests to observe the resulted pattern. The
research question that guided my study was ―How efficiently
the Notes-Taking, Notes-Making and Notes-Reviewing can
improve the short term retention of lecture-information for
the learners in Higher Education at lower level of academic
program (Interior design) with respect to free recall, accuracy
and comprehension type of questions ?‖. This qualitative
research uses Primary data collected from 22 students.
Harmonious to some of the studies in the past, this study
reaffirmed the importance and vital impact of Notes taking
and reviewing on the short term retention of received
information. In addition a pattern was revealed that Notes
making enhances comprehension skills and notes reviewing
enhances accuracy skills.

Workshop: Best practices for undergraduate research experiencesKirsten Zimbardi
International invitation to facilitate workshop at the inaugural American Physiological Society's Institute on Teaching & Learning (Bar Harbour, Maine, USA; June 2014). Workshop was an interactive consultation with bioscience academics who wanted to implement or expand their programs for engaging undergraduate students in authentic research experiences.
Abstract
Undergraduate research experiences (UREs) during which students undertake a research project over an extended period of time under the direct supervision of a researcher, are associated with high levels of student engagement, academic success (Kuh 2008) and a wide range of student benefits (Hunter et al. 2006). In physiology education, practicals that incorporate physiological research can be used to promote active learning (Michael 2006), and teach students key skills in critical evaluation of complex data alongside important physiological concepts (Zimbardi et al. 2013, Luckie et al. 2012). Following an extensive investigation of diverse ways that research experiences are successfully embedded into undergraduate curricula (Zimbardi and Myatt 2012), we have developed a model for up-scaling UREs to cohorts of several hundred students. We are now leading a national project in Australia to support the uptake of these Authentic Large-Scale Undergraduate Research Experiences (ALUREs) and provide the benefits of research experiences to thousands of undergraduate students. During this workshop, examples of ALUREs from the biosciences will be used to highlight key considerations for ALURE design and implementation. Workshop participants will be engaged in developing their own ALURE using a detailed checklist derived from our extensive experience supporting faculty in developing, implementing and evaluating ALUREs.
Performance of students in WAEC/NECO SSCE 2000 – 2013 mathematics result continually reported as poor even with no. with credit pass less than 50%.
Ochepa (2007) saying its more of a global issue with one of the factors as the methods of presentation, this is supporting Salau (2002), Etukodu (2006), Emaikwu (2012) etc emphasizing bad methods of teaching.
Observations point at the use of Conventional Teaching Strategies as cause for the decimal performance.
Sec. curr. clearly pro-activity, but teachers ignore such making learners passive in the class.
