Real Estate Property Management at a Glance
As Stout’s property management program finishes up its sixth year at the
University, things are looking very exciting for the program. With students
graduating from the program here at Stout, our alumni starts to fill the
workforce and spread the word of this unique and much needed degree in
real estate management. As word spreads, our enrollment increases. For fall
2015, we anticipate 22 freshmen declaring our Real Estate Property
Management degree, that is up from ten freshmen in 2014 and two in 2013.
The program here at Stout is ever changing. New this fall, we will be offering
a real estate appraisal course. This new course should prove to strengthen
the program and make students more aware of the appraisal profession.
With additions to the program, we are bound to have our share of losses.
After years of sharing his knowledge, our dear friend and colleague, Doug
Kennedy is retiring at the end of this semester. On behalf of all of us in the
College of Management, we would like to thank Doug for his years of service
and his help in creating our real estate management program here at Stout.
Let us all wish Doug a very happy retirement!
Ultimately, the loss of facility creates a space that needs to be filled. Fred
Prassas is now in need of a few adjunct professors to help continue to grow
our program here at Stout. If you are at all interested in possibly teaching
within the program, please contact Fred.
A new state of the art classroom, evolving curriculum, increased enrollment
and new incoming professors are sure to kick start some exciting things for
the program. Stay tuned for more great news!

Introducing the
Weidner Center
After Dean Weidner’s generous
one million dollar donation to
our program, a large portion
was set aside for a major
renovation to create a space for
our students to learn and
collaborate with the latest
technology.
Collaborative Focus
The design of the room was
centered on the idea of
working together and
engaging both students and
staff. The round tables allow for
groups to collaborate together,
and the central teaching station
encourages mobility and
sharing.
Latest Technology
Updated technology is
necessary for evolving
generations. Smart monitors
are located at each table and
allow for the display of work
and ideas from each group. An
HD monitor equipped with a
webcam allows potential
speakers to telecommute for
classroom discussions or IREM
student workshops.

IREM Student Chapter Update
Fall semester brought some great opportunities for students of the UW-Stout
IREM Student Chapter. With membership at an all-time high for the club it
truly has been an exciting year for the Property Management students.
The major event of the semester was the IREM Fall Leadership Conference.
Held during the middle of October in sunny Orlando, Florida at the Hilton
Bonnet Creek Resort, we were fortunate enough to have 11 students attend
the conference this year. With this record high attendance for a national
conference, it goes without saying that the Stout students made quite the
impression. Students were asked to contribute their thoughts on how to
increase student membership in a meeting about academic outreach. As well
as attend a presentation and lunch at the University of Central Florida, where
our very own Aaron Johnson sat on a panel of IREM members as the student
representative. He helped convey why real estate management is the business
to be in.
This spring, students had the opportunity to attend the Leadership and
Legislative Summit in Washington D.C. April 11th through 15th.Also the
chapter began a relationship with Stout’s Sustainable Construction
Organization this semester in hopes of partnering up for students to earn
their LEED Green Associate certification. In addition, there are plans for a
workshop that students can attend to earn their Wisconsin’s Realtor License;
this is where students will be able to attend a few nights of lecture and
review, then study together for the exam.
A lot of the successes of the student chapter are related to the funding and
support from our local IREM chapters: Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Madison and
Chicago. Also the Weidner Endowment fund plays a big part in helping our
students stay involved and provides scholarships to our students.
With another year coming to an end for our IREM Student Chapter, we
would like to thank all of our supporters for helping us keep our club and our
program a success at Stout. For more information or questions please contact
UW-Stout’s IREM Student Club at irem@uwstout.edu or Program Director
Fred Prassas.
