This document announces four upcoming alumni networking events hosted by the Principal Leadership Institute in Spring 2017 on topics related to health equity, socio-emotional learning, equity-centered master scheduling, and the impacts of racial segregation in housing. It provides details on two free events in March - a talk by Congresswoman Barbara Lee on fighting for health equity, and a panel discussion on the importance of social-emotional learning in schools. It also advertises two paid workshops in March on building an equity-centered master schedule, to be led by staff from the College & Career Academy Support Network and Cheryl Domenichelli from the Principal Leadership Institute.

1. Principal Leadership Institute Spring Alumni Networking Events
We are pleased to inform you about four Alumni Networking opportunities during Spring 2017 on the
topics of Health Equity, Socio-Emotional Learning, Equity Centered Master Scheduling, and the Impacts
of Racial Segregation in Housing with esteemed speakers such as Congresswoman Barbara Lee and the
new Graduate School of Education Dean Prudence Carter.
Each topic is related to the PLI curriculum and alumni will recognize many of the scholars who
contributed to their PLI studies including Linda Darling Hammond and Richard Rothstein.
Some of these events are sponsored by campus departments and two are sponsored by the Principal

School Accountability: What's SEL Got to Do with It?

reveals the true beliefs, attitudes, values and priorities of the school. The school’s master
schedule is like looking at an MRI of the inner workings of a school. It is the window to the soul of
the school.

Join us in a workshop session presented in collaboration with PLI and the College & Career Academy
Support Network (CCASN) as we examine building a master schedule from a lens of equity and social
justice. The workshops are presented as a combination of lecture and group interaction. We encourage
school teams to participate. You may attend one or both sessions.
Session 1 will include an overview of the five stages of master schedule construction. will further
understanding of the relationship between the master schedule and an equity-centered school culture.
This session is presented by members of the CCASN staff.
Members of the CCASN staff have deep and wide-ranging experience in developing master schedules at
all levels of instruction. Their expertise includes building the capacity of school-site Master Schedule
Teams to create master schedules reflective of the school’s vision for enabling every student to
successfully complete a challenging program of study.
Session 2 will highlight the use of equity audits to inform the building of master schedules. Participants
are encouraged to bring the master schedule of their schools to conduct the equity audit. We will also
provide sample schedules for your use as needed. This session is presented by Cheryl Domenichelli.
Cheryl Domenichelli is the PLI Coordinator of Programs for Visiting School Leaders and a PLI support
provider for new K-12 administrators. Cheryl was the founding principal of Kimball High School in Tracy
and was named 2012 California Secondary Principal of the Year by the Association of California School
Administrators. Her 23 years of professional experiences in education include the classroom, high school
administration and district office administration. She brings experience in building master schedules
from an equity and social justice lens.
