PLG Consulting prepared a report for Black Gold Ohio on logistics in the developing Utica Shale region. The report discussed the logistics challenges of shale development booms, outlined the supply chain flows for Utica shale oil and gas development, and analyzed infrastructure and transportation needs. It concluded that for Utica shale to succeed, it must have the most cost-competitive production and logistics costs to outcompete other shale plays.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
In the Adani-Hindenburg case, what is SEBI investigating.pptxAdani case
Adani SEBI investigation revealed that the latter had sought information from five foreign jurisdictions concerning the holdings of the firm’s foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in relation to the alleged violations of the MPS Regulations. Nevertheless, the economic interest of the twelve FPIs based in tax haven jurisdictions still needs to be determined. The Adani Group firms classed these FPIs as public shareholders. According to Hindenburg, FPIs were used to get around regulatory standards.

» Where are the destinations for
further processing?
Midstream processing
Crude oil refineries
Petrochemical processing plants
» Is the infrastructure in place to
allow efficient movements?
Pipeline locations and capacity
Adequate roads
Rail infrastructure
Waterway terminal availability
PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 13
14. Potential Crude Oil Destinations
Refinery
Ohio Region of Utica Play
» Utica could displace incoming crude at these local refineries
» Other mothballed refineries may open up if Utica takes off
» Logistics flows will need to be established
PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 14
15. Utica Natural Gas Markets
» Utilize existing gas » Construction of new
transmission system to pipeline systems for
supply local markets access into new markets
Well-developed pipeline system NEXUS gas pipeline ties in the
Pipelines may be reconfigured or Midwest and beyond
added to improve gas flow
Current Gas Pipeline Network NEXUS Proposed Route
PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 15
16. Potential for Downstream
Processing In the Region
Marcellus/Utica will create an opportunity
for a more cost-competitive chemical
feedstock supply chain
» Marcellus and Utica are expected to Monaca, PA
increase ethane supply by 25%*
» 45% of all US polyethylene is consumed
around the Utica shale play
» 70% of all US polyethylene is produced in
Texas and Louisiana
Proposed Shell

PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 16
17. LNG Potential Opportunity
» LNG is a cost leverage play
Global market price for dry gas is $10-17/mcf
Current US market price is ~$3/mcf
Cost to liquefy and transport is $4 to $7/mcg
Several companies have applied for export permits
» Infrastructure Considerations
Some dry gas infrastructure already in place
Requires fractionation and liquefaction to transport
efficiently
There are 4 LNG import terminals in the Northeast
that could be modified for export
» Potential Markets
Exports to Europe
Would need Federal legislation changes
PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 17
19. Utica Must Be Most
Cost-Competitive to Win!
Oil, gas, and petrochemicals are commodities
» Utica must beat the competition with lowest delivered cost
Production and logistics cost are main cost drivers
Environmental and regulatory factors will also impact cost
» Know your competitors – Bakken, Marcellus, Eagle Ford,
West Africa, North Sea, Canada
» Importance of cost will escalate as more shale plays are
developed in the U.S.
PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 19
20. Utica Pros and Cons
» Advantages
Location
Good basic infrastructure
Learning from earlier shale plays
Wetter than Marcellus
» Disadvantages
New entrant in shale gas and oil
Short term pipeline infrastructure
Lack of petrochemical plants
PLG Consulting Logistics / Engineering / Supply Chain Delivering Solutions for Competitive Advantage 20
21. What Can Ohio Do To Help Utica
Win?
» Drive cost competitiveness of production & logistics
» Develop markets for products
» Support with political / regulatory efficiency
» Make Ohio an easy place to do business
» Promote partnerships between:
State and local government
Educational institutions
Local supply companies
Oil and gas companies
