Thousands of gallons of unused water from park buildings like the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and Casa de Balboa are currently draining into the sewer system, causing erosion and damage. A pilot project is proposed to reclaim rainwater, air conditioning condensate, cooling tower condensate, and reverse osmosis by-product to substitute for potable water in irrigation and other outdoor uses. This could drastically reduce potable water usage for irrigation, decrease erosion and maintenance costs, and achieve significant savings on water bills while providing a potential model for other park areas.
