1. All living things, including plants, need to have:
some type of circulatory system
some means of supporting themselves
1. Translocation is the movement of water and other substances, like minerals and sap, throughout the plant's
body.
2. The circulatory system in woody plants functions as a support system.
3. There are 3 main types of plants:
1. Angiosperms
2. Gymnosperms
3. Ferns
4. Vascular tissues make up the plant's circulatory system.
5. The 2 main vascular tissues are bark and wood.
6. Xylem is the fancy name for wood.
7. Xylem carries water and minerals and is the main support tissue for woody plants.
8. Phloem is the fancy name for bark.
9. Phloem carries sap and is not a supoort tissue.
10. Transpiration helps water and minerals move through a plant and help cool the plant,
11. Stomates are located on the undersides of leaves and control transpiration.
12. Many factors affect transpiration.
13. Desert plants have adaptations that affect transpiration.
14. There are 2 types of skeletons - watery and woody.
15. Watery skeletons depend on turgor pressure.
16. Woody skeletons depend on xylem.
