2. NARRATIVE - PLANNING
• In order to create our narrative, in class we went over the important aspects
of what a narrative should include. One of the assets that a narrative should
have is featuring Todorov’s narrative structure. This will help us build our
narrative, as the narrative should be clear and effective in order for the trailer
to work.
• Todorov’s narrative structure:
- Exposition (Background information/introduction to characters)
- Development (Of situation)
- Complication (Main event and action)
- Climax (Confrontation)
- Resolution (Restoration of equilibrium or a new equilibrium)
3. NARRATIVE - COMMUNICATING
• My group decided to have more then one theory portrayed in our narrative
and our trailer in order for it to reach out to our potential audience. With this
in mind, it was important to make sure that our narrative made sense and
everything we featured could be linked with our trailer.
• We had a week to fully come with our narrative so we had to share our ideas
outside the classroom and we did this by creating a group on “Whatsapp.”
This involved me, Chloe and Priscilla and it made us communicate more
efficiently. This was ideal because we got to share our new ideas with each
other and we were instantly kept updated from time on building our narrative.
4. NARRATIVE – BRAINSTORMING
• In class we also brainstormed our ideas for our narrative so we could see
what ideas suited us the best. We also came up with films that influenced our
narrative and these were mainly “Orphan” and “Case 39.”
•
Moreover, we then came with names for the characters in order to build our
narrative. The brainstorm was really beneficial as it helped us decide what to
include in our narrative and what bits of the story were the most important.
As a group we decided that we were going to follow the conventional
narrative but we have chosen to subvert some conventions to make our
narrative stand out more. We have also came up with links to our trailer for
example the history of gothic literature is also influential to us planning our
narrative.
