Our Song Choice

Before choosing any video our group decided to brainstorm some ideas and themes we would like to
incorporate in our song.
We were sold on filming the majority of our video outside to engage with the outdoors and use
several base tracks as opposed to just filming in a house
Initial ideas that popped to mind were large fields with lots of overgrown plants with powerful
colours
Floral and retro style clothes
The idea of having a focal object or point such as a guitar, or records etc
Something that went against a typical stereotype

Corrine Bailey Rae – Put your records on
Ellie Goulding – Your Song
Katrina and the Waves – Walking on sunshine

I would say that choosing out of these three proved the trickiest out of all decisions we have had to
make so far.
Taking audient into consideration was a big thing for us so we decided that this would be a good
opportunity to do so

The only way we could decide was to do a mini pitch to Mary (Media Teacher) with all our different
ideas for our music videos and asking some of our peers around college

Our Song Choice
Although our music video will be completely different to the original we found
some
similarities that we could also incorporate in our video
Our Final Decision
Was to choose Corrine Bailey Rae’s – Put your records on
She was enthused in our initial ideas concepts and places to film.
We firmly believed that our music video would keep to our initial ideas and contrast heavily with the
original as we look to add a quirky touch to the innocent music video
Our Artist
We want to keep out artist name to last because we learnt from AS that the title of our thriller
changed as we filmed more scenes and more ideas popped into our head. Therefore we want
to focus on the artist name after we have filmed or during filing her music video.

Genre of our artist music leans towards more;
- Soul Our artist are similar to:
- Pop - Joss Stone
- R&B - Nora Jones
- Indie Pop - Adele
                                                                - Vanessa Carlton
                                                                - Ellie Goulding
                                                                - Sandi Thom
What would they wear?
• Summery Flowery Dresses- Shows freedom to some sense as its not heavy clothing. Usually bright colours
which could reflect their mood, happiness, and what type of mood their music portrays.
• Flower Headband – Shows Their connection With Nature and gives an Innocent Image
• Although clothing and image is very feminine the artist also shows a positive role for independent women

Views on gender power relations: feminist

Religion: All (i.g christian, scientogolist, etc..)

Our music video will appeal to our target audience as, feminist ideas will be shared
And our conventions will go against the stereotypical portrayal of women. As these antidote
Will be used it can be argued that it will provide an different image of women and attract
The audience as it will share feminist ideologies. Some strong female singers such as
Beyonce and Nicki Minaj may be strong characters, as they are dominant in their music
Videos over men; however as they are wearing explicit clothing it can be argued they are
Still imprisoned in the male gaze, this reinforces the idea that they will have dress in a certain
Way to attain attention. However our music videos provides a alternative to the stereotypical
Portrayals of women as our persona will be fully clothed, she will not be portrayed sexually
And themes of innocence will be present in our music video.

                                                                            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcdrWXgqGOE
Wider Audience
The feminine independent woman image will attract many females. I particularly think
it would attract young adults from 17+ to 28. as this is a time where young females
start adventuring, into university, a job and going out to the wider world and need to
be more responsible and independent.
Their music will send a good vibe to these young females and have a ‘ sigh and smile’
affect. It will encourage them to feel the freedom and take adventure.
Music Video Influences
• Ellie Golding – The Writer ( When she is in the field)
• Connie Lin – Fog over water ( Woods Scene)

Goodwin's Theory

Goodwin expresses three major theories in relation to music videos: illustration,
amplification
And disjuncture. There are elements of illustration and disjuncture in our music video.
We Will portray the persona in such way, where she is happy and free; we are also
planning on
Using records as props, as she will be handing these out as the music video proceeds,
the
Use of this prop links to the title “put your records on”. However we also will use
elements
Of disjuncture as some locations and some of the narrative plot will not be relevant to
the
Track or the lyrics; however it will be relevant to the genre. For example we are
planning on
Making the persona wear an dress, we will film scenes in an former outdoor railway
service http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVsKIDiksCU
Which is full in greenery which will contrast against the city environment (i.e the record
store) and could also symbolise freedom as green and nature could symbolise this.
Risk Assessment

Weather issues – The weather on the day we plan on filming may be not the appropriate weather for our
scene. We can overcome this by planning the days of filming in advance and also checking the weather
forecast for that those particular days.
Permission to film in location of interest - To attain approval to film in the record studio may could
possibly be an issue as the store owners may not allow us to film in the store. We will be visiting the record
studio in advance and asking for permission and if it is an problem to film in the record studio we will think
of an alternative as we will have enough time.
Damage to camera – There may be various possibilities of the equipment being damaged. We will be alert
and secure the camera on the tripod. We will also handle all equipment with care.
Obtaining equipment - whilst obtaining the equipment difficulties may rise as the equipment may already be
in use by other groups, this is why we will use a production schedule and plan the days we will use the
cameras so we can ask for permission in advance.
Absent member – problems can rise with individuals causing them to be absent; we have all agreed to cover
for an absent member and also we have planned filming sessions were all members will be present.
Not enough footage filmed – the footage filmed may not cover the whole music video whilst we are editing.
This is why we will be filming most of the song in each location (base Track) to ensure we have enough
footage to film.
Absent persona’s – the may be a danger of the persona’s not attending the shooting of our music video. We
have made sure that the persona’s of our music video is attending the day of filming as we have already
discussed this with them.
Costume and props – problems could arise whilst trying to use the costumes and props, this is why we will
purchase the
 costume and props in advance.

Editor's Notes

  • #11 We put up a post on Corinne’s website Forum where we got some replies.. these responses just added to the ideas we already had showing us that we are on the right track and it is something they would like to see as fans of that genre and even particular artist
  • #12 *Hampstead Heath – For beginning of song where there is an introductory instrumental we will have shots of the flowers and our ‘artist’ running through the overgrown flowers or running her hands through them using a lot of ECUs and MS Will have scenes in the park with the ‘artist’ and her guitar playing in different parts of the park – eg. In the middle of the woodland areas as well as around other areas of the park – using a range of shots *Camden Canal – Have the artist sitting on top of a canal boat with her guitar singing looking into the camera – using MSs and LSs Artist walking along side the canal with a group of girl friends and also on her own – again using a range of different shots, from the other side of the canal as well*Disused Track – - The disused track goes from Finsbury Park through Highgate to Alexandra Palace – giving us a large range of filming locations within it Scenes of the artist riding her bike through the overgrown woodland area of the disused track Walking over the bridges – filming from underneath the bridge as well as on the bridge*Green Screen – Scenes of the artist with flowers on the green screen singing with and without her guitar with the flowers both in front of her and behind her*Flashback Records – Artist herself looking through the old records with ECUs of her hands flicking through the records Artist and group of female friends in side the record shop listening to music and having funWe chose all of these locations as we thought they would go with the tone and mood of the song, we found that all these locations are very suitable as they give across the feeling of a young independent woman having fun and relaxing with her friends around London in different places.
