Alfred Hitchcock was a pioneering British director known for his use of camera techniques like voyeurism to increase audience anxiety and suspense. Quentin Tarantino
Quentin Tarantino is a famous film director, screenwriter, cinematographer,
producer and actor. He is also well known for making fantastic nonlinear
storylines and aestheticization of violence such as films like; Reservoir dogs, Pulp
fiction, kill bill vol. 1&2 and inglorious basterds.
Tarantino has a rare technique that gages the audience with movie and keeps
them in suspense in a dramatic film or, in a gory action film leaves the audience
disgusted by the realistic scenes for example; seeing a limb being chopped off.
The importance of the techniques he uses is interesting because it does highlight
the importance of the certain genre of film he is making to give it an edge ahead
of other films in the same genre. This means that the fact that he does include
gory bits in his film instead, of just moving to the next scene or different image
gives him uniqueness like no other in the business.
Whilst making the reservoir dogs Quentin Tarantino worked with Sally Menke a
female editor and he stressed that the most important thing about making a
movie was that the relationship between the director and editor was very good.
He chose to work with a female editor because he thought she a female editor
would be “more nurturing” toward editing the movie and him. Also another
reason why he thought a female editor would be good was because he felt that
maybe a male editor would be just trying to only put their ideas ahead and not
trying to listen to his views. I’m not sure exactly what technique they used but
they mentioned that editing is a very long process and it will take hours on end
just to finish a small part of the film. Quentin Tarantino and Sally Menke
mentioned that they spent so much time together they saw each other more than
they did their partners.
Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock was a famous and prestigious British film director and producer
which was a distinctive, for his directorial methods. He established the use of a
camera made to move in a way that impersonates a person's gaze, forcing the
audience to engage in a form of voyeurism. He used a unique skill of shots to
increase anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used modern film editing such as; his use
of camera shots and music in psycho where, the viewers were always kept in
suspense that something bad was going to happen even though, it was the main
character. Several of Hitchcock's films have twist endings and gripping plots
featuring depictions of violence, murder, and crime, although many of the
mysteries function as decoys or a overall goal for the protagonist to achieve. This
only helped elements in the film and created a tremendously complex
psychological assessment of the characters.
Hitchcock was famous for a number of film that he made such as; The 39 steps,
Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Saboteur, Notorious, Vertigo, North by NorthWest, Psycho and,
Family plot. Alfred Hitchcock used emotions as the ultimate goal of each scene.

a particular scene. He controlled the intensity of that emotion by placing the
camera close or far away from those eyes. A close-up will fill the screen with
emotion, and pulling away to a wide angle shot will dissolve that emotion. He
sometimes used a sudden cut from wide to close-up will give the audience a
sudden surprise.
Alfred Hitchcock has influenced a number of leading talents today such as;
Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Tim Burton etc. In their films today the
techniques that Alfred Hitchcock was famous for are being used quite similarly
like the way Hitchcock did two examples being; His use of suspense in films
which he was very famous for and, earned the name of “Master of Suspense”. His
technique of suspense was sometimes showing the audience relevant things
which the characters, don’t see to build the tension and the awareness of danger
that the character isn’t aware of. In addition to that his other technique of
surprises and twist to the films are used all over the world today becoming a
major part of a modern day horror movie to always keep people guessing right to
the very end of a movie.
