  1. Pinterest is a social networking site that allows users to connect and share info through the use of images. Pinterest is designed for both the web and a mobile app for easy access. The main target audience is women in their 30s who have families however there is a growing # of men. It is driven by intent data which means content is determined by what users are looking for, what they are repinning, what they are searching. Pinterest is considered a catalog of ideas with both pins and boards. describe picture
  2. A board is an organizational tool where you save your images. As a user you personally develop your own categories that match with your interests and this becomes what one would consider a profile. Boards are also what connects users because you follow peoples boards. Like most other SNS you are being connected to other users that share the same interest because 9 out of 10 you’re only going to follow boards that interest you.
  3. A pin is a visual bookmark. When searching through different boards users can click on the image, pin it and it will automatically be saved to one of your own boards. When clicking on the image the user also has the ability to be linked directly to the original source of the image. Here is an example of an image you may see..my clicking pin it it will save to your board and allow for greater reach, you have the option to send it to somebody, like it, or visit the original website.
  4. There are many uses and gratifications linked to Pinterest. I would say that the most important is share information and communicate through images because there is no other SNS that does this. Another major one is the linking ability connected to the images that you save. It is entertaining, provides a virtual exploration that other sites do not, a place to organize your interests and be social. Pinterest also allows users to gain information and actionable advice & ideas...for example a big arena on Pinterest is DIY projects (explain). Users have the ability to share ideas and interests with other users and create boards that promote self. Also very convenient, users can explore almost anything they want right in one spot and available on the web or your phone.
