Over 800 people work across five production lines, producing up to 250 tonnes of chewing gum every day
(Airwaves, Freedent, Eclipse, etc.).The site is currently diversifying production with a range of confectionery.
In 2002, the Biesheim plant, which has its own water treatment units, was faced with a situation where its water
treatment facilities were unable to treat its effluent to required quality levels, meaning that the plant could not
guarantee the conformity of its discharges to applicable standards.

Wrigley is the world's number one chewing gum
manufacturer. The Biesheim plant in France's Haut-Rhin
region is currently the largest in the world,producing over
50 000 tonnes of products every year, and the Wrigley
Group's only chewing gum production plant in France.

OUR SOLUTIONS
We embarked on a joint approach with Wrigley with two intimately related phases, initially to
gear the facility towards the quantity of water requiring treatment by setting up a preliminary
treatment line, and subsequently through a commitment to operate all facilities as part of a
performance-based contract.
This performance contract included overall wastewater management:
Day-to-day operation of the treatment plant (1.5 people permanently on site).•
