A phrasal verb is a verb that is made up of a main verb
together with an adverb or a preposition, or both.
examples:
looked down
broke out
come on
point out
find out

3. However, their meaning is not obvious from the
meanings of the individual themselves
She has always looked down on him
Explanation: the phrasal looked down doesn’t
mean that she is looking down
from a higher place.
Real meaning:
She has always think that she is better than him.

14. For example the verb grow
Usually means to become larger or increase in amount
But phrasal verb grow up means to become an adult/mature.
She’s letting her hair grow. (grow = increase in length)
She wants to be a firefighter when she grows up. (grows
up = become an adult)
It’s time for him to grow up and start accepting his
responsibilities. (grow up = behave in a mature way)
if you combine two different verbs, you might
come out with a new word

“The patient had her tonsils taken out when she was ten years old,”
You may want to write “The patient had her tonsils removed when
she was ten years old.”
