Demand for the cards has grown so high that the small staff of four is struggling to fulfill the 70,000 card requests received weekly. A weighted average of 42 channel samples taken from the main vein in the upper adit yielded 14.88 per cent lead, 7.58 per cent zinc, 298 grams per tonne silver and 6.5 grams per tonne gold. The main vein within the upper adit has an average width of 40 centimetres and dips 48 degrees northeast. Mineralization is unevenly distributed throughout the vein with the higher grades being associated with pods of massive sulphides that appear to plunge to the north. Silver values are highest within the galena-sphalerite rich portions of the massive sulphide while gold is associated with pyrite in the lower portion of the massive sulphide ore shoot (see Noonday, 082KSW127 - Prospectus, Ambergate Exploration Inc., 1988).
In 1928, eight tonnes of ore were mined from the property to produce 6158 grams of silver, 2667 kilograms of lead, 1809 kilograms of zinc and 93 grams of gold.
Silver Sparrow Prospect
The occurrence consists of two separate quartz veins some 90 metres apart. The Silver Sparrow vein consists of iron-stained quartz containing stringers of auriferous pyrite, argentiferous galena and minor sphalerite. The vein strikes 120 degrees, dips 30 degrees northeast and is about 1 metre thick where it is exposed in the trenches. The vein has also been exposed in a 6-metre deep inclined shaft. The best grab sample from the vein assayed 27.5 grams per tonne gold, 1083 grams per tonne silver, 56.2 per cent lead and 0.55 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 18136). The Pine Tree vein is situated 90 metres west of the Silver Sparrow and has similar mineralogy. The vein is exposed for about 20 metres in three trenches. The vein strikes 071 degrees, dips 30 degrees northwest and ranges in width from 7 to 50 centimetres.
Snowstorm Prospect
The veins are exposed in 26 trenches covering an area of about 7.5 hectares. The largest vein is about 1 metre wide, strikes 313 degrees and dips 39 degrees to the east. Grab samples have assayed 572 grams per tonne silver, 2.81 grams per tonne gold, 22.4 per cent lead, and 0.06 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 16433; 23669)

A composite chip sample of about 10 blocks of vein material taken from the soil at the western end of the trench assayed 144 grams per tonne gold, 158 grams per tonne silver, 6.04 per cent lead and 3.47 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 18136). The No. 2 vein is exposed in a trench 4.6 metres above the No. 1 vein. Mineralization in the sandstone between the veins comprises thin sheets of pyrite and minor galena with sphalerite along cleavage planes.

The occurrence consists of a 30 centimetre wide milky quartz vein striking 119 degrees and dipping 45 degrees southwest. The vein is mineralized with disseminations and pods of argentiferous gale tetrahedrite and stibnite. A selected grab sample of the mineralized vein assayed 1540 grams per tonne silver, 41.1 per cent lead, 16.1 per cent antimony and 1.58 per cent copper

The Segal Family Foundation and The Forbes Funds developed and launched “Emerging Directors of Development,” a learning program that will recruit and train local young professionals, specifically black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) in nonprofit development & fundraising. Graduates will be placed in a full-time development role at a participating local 501c3 organization, which will also receive ongoing support and assistance during and after the program.
Fewer than 1% of executives at Allegheny County-based corporations and nonprofit organizations are people of color. The co-developed program seeks to increase the representation of black and brown professionals in these executive roles immediately. The program will recruit and enroll ten early-career professionals that are outgoing, entrepreneurial, and hard-working in a four-month intensive course. The course will immerse participants in learning the technical and people skills necessary for becoming a high-level development professional. The professionals will be paired with a participating nonprofit organization that is currently hiring for the position. The program is open to local 501c3 organizations challenged with hiring qualified high-level development professionals and/or looking to hire a first-time well-trained development professional. Organizations will receive ongoing support services as participants are trained and through the first six months of employment. Participating organizations will receive Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership membership, development coaching in the interim stage, and sustained capacity-building resources & opportunities beyond the conclusion of the program.

The Checkout Charity Trap
Checkout charity donations are an increasingly common trend, though they do not tend to increase retailer sales. While they are not a major waste, checkout donations do not usually warm customers to the retailer. People sometimes feel ambushed or awkward when asked for donations at checkout and may develop resentment towards the retailer. Nowadays, people research causes thoroughly before committing to ensure their money is effectively used, so unplanned checkout donations are rarely appreciated. Short-term donation techniques only create short-term donors and do not allow people to feel positively about their charitable act.
Profitable Non-Profit Education
Charter schools often hire for-profit management companies to handle their finances and operations, with much of the public funding going to these private firms. An audit found that most of the revenue from one nonprofit charter school went to a large management company, with little board involvement in running the school. While partnerships with private firms are under scrutiny, "sweep contracts" that funnel almost all public money to these companies have received little attention due to the lack of access regulators have to company financial records. Experts argue this setup allows private firms to profit at the expense of charter schools fulfilling their public function.

Bill Kocke helped a stranger who had fallen and injured himself on icy stairs by staying with him until paramedics arrived. The man later tracked down Kocke to thank him, and during their conversation mentioned charities in need of funds, including the Salvation Army HeatShare program. It turned out the man was an executive at a large investment firm, and without Kocke's knowledge, he donated $10,000 to the program in Kocke's name. Other colleagues then donated as well, bringing the total donation to $16,000 - all because Kocke took the time to help someone in need.

When Wei Min “Al” Sheen died in 2012, his son Alex had an epiphany while writing his eulogy. Even though his father had never accomplished anything that most people would see as being newsworthy, he left a legacy in his family that Alex felt the need to pass on to others; that of the importance of keepings one’s word. To spread his father’s message to others, Alex founded the nonprofit “Because I Said I Would” with the idea that he would help other realize both the importance of keeping your promises as well as the good feelings that come from it. His company distributes “promise cards”. Simple blank white business cards with the phrase “because I said I would.” in the bottom corner. The idea is to write a promise on the card and then give to the person who you’ve promised something to. When you have followed through with your promise, you get the card back as a reminder of what you did. While the company had some minor success, a series of high-profile cases and interviews with various people have raised the profile of this small company to new heights. Heights so high that they are now having trouble fulfilling all the orders for the cards people are asking for. So many have inundated his office with requests, that the staff of four is having trouble distributing the 70,000 cards that are asked for every week. And that’s ignoring the fact that there are still 11,000 that have been requested but not yet shipped. With an upcoming appearance on the Rachel Ray show, one can easily assume the demand is going to increase even more.
