Career History
February 2016 – present Kier MG, Leeds
I agreed to transfer to Leeds to help with the workload on a framework contract with the Canals and
Rivers Trust. I am currently responsible for running four projects, one is for towpath/bank repairs, one
is for a replacement bridge deck and two are for emergency demolition of two bridges following the
Christmas floods. Total value of these works is £1.45million and they are under NEC3.
December 2015 – January 2016 Kier MG, Exeter
Following completion of the South West Water project I was asked to assist the Exeter office on
closing out a flood defence contract for the Environment Agency. My task was to analyse the costs on
forty work packages, apportion these to the various elements of work and then put this information
into bespoke EA forms. The value of this contract was £12million. I also helped put together
subcontract enquiries for a major flood defence tender that was underway..
March 2015 – November 2015 Kier MG, St Austell
I was engaged on a self employed basis as a Senior Quantity Surveyor working on AMP5
Development Services Project for South West Water. My role was to prepare and submit final
accounts for a large number of schemes on the clean water side within an overall NEC 3 framework
contract. Once the accounts had been submitted I reviewed and agreed them with the Clients Auditor.
All accounts were successfully submitted and agreed within the KPI deadline. The value of accounts
submitted was £8.5million.
December 2008 to March 2015 Babcock International, Plymouth
I was engaged on a self-employed basis as a Senior Quantity Surveyor providing estimating and cost
management on a £15 million project for the disposal and recycling of nuclear implicated legacy plant
and equipment. The contract arrangement was cost plus within an overall budget and had to meet
annual control totals which was challenging. The project was innovative and required a high degree of
lateral thinking to overcome problems and select viable options. I had a high degree of autonomy and
carried out the role of Cost Manger reporting to the Project Controls Manager. My duties involved day
to day cost management, preparing various monthly cost reports, forecasts and models, preparing
estimates and business cases and attending joint customer meetings. I was also responsible for day to
day project planning using MS Project and was expected to challenge the project team on progress. I
also deputised for the Project Manager when required including acting as temporary Project Manager
for three months in 2012 for which I received a “Valuing People” Award. Outside of my main project
I also assisted in estimating for various heavy civils projects within the dockyard. I was also involved
in the early stages of the Submarine Disposals Project and carried out the initial cost planning for the
three options under consideration. These were between £0.5 billion and £1.5 billion including life
cycle costing.
January 2008 to December 2008 MOD Defence Estates, Plymouth
I was engaged on a self-employed basis as a consultant quantity surveyor providing cost advice to DE
on the regional prime contract for the South West. This involves checking budgets and tenders for
major schemes and preparing tender and “value for money” reports. The schemes included £4million

flood defence scheme, £4million command centre and a £20million hanger replacement. I also
prepared initial cost plans for schemes up to £5million and also one for a £40million refueling jetty.
January 2007 to January 2008 E C Harris, Plymouth
I was employed on secondment to DML in Devonport as part of a small team tendering for
commercial nuclear work. This involved setting up the estimating systems as well as producing
tenders. There were four major schemes; £9million process cells, £1.5million process crane,
£1.75million storage facility and £13.5million LLW waste retrieval system. DML were successful in
winning the last of these projects in a three stage tender process but unfortunately the project was
shelved the day the contract was due to be signed. This resulted in the section closing and I moved
within DML to be change control manager on a £90million super yacht.
October 2004 to January 2007 Interserve Engineering Services, Plymouth
I was employed as Regional Quantity Surveyor for the South West responsible for the commercial
management of M & E services for two major projects, Armada worth £15million to provide new
accommodation for the Navy and Cornwall Schools comprising 15 refurbishments and two new builds
worth £9million. Both of these were PFI schemes with a design and build contract. My duties included
cost/value reporting, subcontract package preparation and management and project cost control. I had
a small team of surveyors and administrators to assist in this.

out monthly payments and agreeing final accounts with subcontractors.

£500,000. I also wrote specifications and prepared pricing schedules for a number of small
