The Public Health Information Group held a meeting to discuss the future of the group. It was noted that the group originally started as a collaboration between WHO Documentation Centres but that role is no longer as prominent. Additionally, there is a lack of people willing to lead the group and participate in meetings. Given the overlap with topics of other special interest groups, the idea was introduced to close down PHIG and advise members to join other relevant groups. A discussion was had and members will provide feedback on the proposal to close the group.

The Pelican Initiative is a knowledge sharing network established in 2002 by five organizations to facilitate multi-stakeholder discussions on evidence-based learning and communication for development. It uses an email discussion group and website to connect almost 350 members, including researchers, evaluators, policymakers, and practitioners.
The initiative takes a structured approach to discussions, focusing on one topic over 2 months with case studies and summaries. Discussion topics aim to promote three types of learning: for policy change, within and across organizations, and in multi-stakeholder alliances. Facilitators encourage participation, provide technical support, and share their own views, but the network's growth relies primarily on existing members.

Sitra copenhagen
Sitra is an independent public foundation established by the Finnish Parliament to promote sustainable development. It has facilitated discussions with 30 societal stakeholders to develop a shared aim for lifelong learning in Finland. Through workshops and working groups, they developed 4 shared theses around ensuring lifelong learning opportunities for all. Key challenges discussed include funding lifelong learning and determining responsibilities. Sitra now aims to organize a parliamentary reform group to further the discussions and align political parties around a long-term vision.

Be the change conference brochure

Hard Work Creating Big Results A Summary of 2002’s OFW in Thailand
1. The OFW program in Thailand in 2002 involved both an academic preparation period and a field survey. Students underwent training in project management and seminars on Thai development issues before forming research plans.
2. Students were divided into thematic working groups focused on particular issues and site working groups concentrated on individual project sites. This required coordination between groups and integration of different themes.
3. During the field survey, students visited key individuals and organizations, conducted interviews, collected data and materials. They worked long hours discussing findings and producing reports. The work was tiring but resulted in pride from presenting successful findings to local leaders.

Hard Work Creating Big Results A Summary of 2002’s OFW in Thailand
1. The OFW program in Thailand in 2002 involved both an academic preparation period and a field survey. Students underwent training in project management and seminars on Thai development issues before forming research plans.
2. Students were divided into thematic working groups focused on particular issues and site working groups concentrated on individual project sites. This required coordination between groups and integration of different themes.
3. During the field survey, students visited key individuals and organizations, conducted interviews, collected data and materials. They worked long hours discussing findings and producing reports. The work was tiring but resulted in pride from presenting successful findings to local leaders.

EAHIL Rotterdam 2022 Public Health Information Group Meeting Time: Wed 1st June at 13-14 pm CEST; Place: De Doelen congress centre, room Van Beuningen Minutes Chair: Mala Mann Secretary: Katri Larmo 1. Apologies for absence Apologies for absence were received from the group Co-chairs Tomas Allen and Ana-Belen Escriva and also from Latifa Bouanzi. 2. Round of introductions Chair Mala Mann started the meeting with the round of introductions. 2. Acceptance of the agenda The topic of the meeting was to discuss the future of our group. 3. Discussion As a background to our discussion, Mala gave a presentation about PHIG’s activities through the years. The presentation can be seen in SlideShare: https://www.slideshare.net/EAHILPHIG/phig-meeting-slides-162022-eahil-rotterdam Our group started as a collaboration, information sharing and discussion venue for World Health Organization Documentation Centres and organizations in Europe involved in public health information. During the years PHIG has changed a lot and done many kinds of activities. One of the latest was a collaborative online session with WHO, on 16 December 2021, where Tomas Allen and colleagues introduced the WHO COVID-19 Research Database. Due to covid pandemic, environmental change and many other global phenomena public health is more important than ever. However, we came to the conclusion that maybe Public Health Information as a separate special interest group has fulfilled its purpose. 1) WHO Documentation Centres, were at the heart of the PHIG when it started however, due to various factors that is not the case anymore. 2) We are lacking in people who have the willingness to run the group, participate in our meetings and contribute to the group. 3) Our topics overlap very much with for example Evidence Based Practice SIG and many other SIG’s. It’s maybe not the best use of the limited resources to run several groups, but to join forces and be part of another group. We introduced the idea of closing down PHIG - members of our group would be advised to join any other SIG they feel is the most relevant for them. The EAHIL Board is currently renewing the membership database, so timing for these kinds of changes would be ideal just now. These minutes will be delivered to all PHIG members in our discussion list, and everyone is invited to tell their opinion for this idea. 4. Close Our chair Mala thanked all participants for the good discussion and ended the meeting at 14 CEST.
