The Public Health Group of EAHIL held their meeting at the Hotel Silken Al-Andalus Palace in Seville, Spain. Key discussions included: 1) An update from WHO about new positions and the expansion of IRIS to include over 150,000 documents in many languages. 2) Consideration of a specific membership model for supranational organizations within EAHIL that would give them participation rights but not voting rights. 3) A presentation about opportunities to promote the Hinari training program and available materials. 4) Sharing of new publications about patient education programs in Italy and the role of health librarians in patient information and education. 5) Plans for the 2018 EAHIL

1. Acceptance of the agenda
The agenda was accepted without changes.
2. Updates from WHO
Tomas updated us about the latest news from WHO.
Klaus Boisen from WHO Euro has changed jobs. We are sorry to lose Klaus from our group and
wish him best success in his new challenges.
There will be a new P3 position in EURO, (P3 = UN System of classification of posts -
https://careers.un.org/lbw/home.aspx?viewtype=SC) in Copenhagen. This is a significant
upgrade from the previous post as there are more responsibilities in the area of publication as
well as requirement to speak/work in Russian.
IRIS is further expanding: there are now about 150 000 documents; globally, from all regional
offices, in many languages.
3. Supranational status and impact on PHIG
There has been a long ongoing discussion about the possibility of supranational membership
for EAHIL. That is to guarantee that EAHIL members working in supranational organizations
stationed in a specific country would not affect the representation and votes of that specific
country within EAHIL organs. The most practical solution seems to be a specific membership
model for supranational representatives where they could be active, but with no voting rights.
4. Hinari trainers
Gaby Caro presented the Hinari training community. Everyone who knows people who could
work as trainers, please contact Gaby. To spread the word about Hinari and Research4Life
programmes these materials can be used as help:

Elsevier also has promoted a grant to do training and materials. CABI representatives might be
possible Hinari promoters as well.
5. Consumer / Patient health
Ivana Truccolo and her colleagues have been doing excellent work with patient information for a
long time and they have three new interesting publications to share:

Sam Johnsson has looked for patient information in different languages, also others than
English. Medline Plus has a good coverage on that. Now also public libraries in different
countries have taken up the challenge to provide patient information in immigrant and minority
languages. Ivana took up the issue of language also in the sense of how professionals talk to
patients. Is the professional language always understandable for the patients and consumers?
Tomas will organize a WebEx follow up meeting on the topic of languages.
6. EAHIL Cardiff 2018 Conference
Sue Thomas presented the plans EAHIL 2018 Cardiff Conference, on 9–13 July 2018. The venue is
booked, LOC working and IPC members recruited, so everything is progressing well. The
conference will cover a wide variety of themes. Ideas for continuing education courses are
welcomed. Sue will also set up an electronic form for volunteering giving CEC's. We'll be looking
forward to a very interesting and successful conference with lots of PHIG issues included in the
program!

3. 7. Other business
Teresa Lee gave an interesting idea for the future conferences/workshops: "unconference"
where short (e.g. one minute) promotional speeches are given, to gather a group of people
interested on the same topic to discuss and cooperate on that topic. The groups are formed
there and then. This idea got a positive response and it's surely worth trying in future.
