What is pharmacology??
• The term "pharmacology" is derived from the
Greek words "pharmakon," meaning drug or
medicine, and "logos," meaning study or
knowledge.
• Pharmacology is the study of drugs, including their
interactions with living organisms, mechanisms of
action, therapeutic uses, and potential side effects.
Pharmacokinetics vs
pharmacodynamics
• Pharmacokinetics refers to what the body does to a
drug,
• whereas pharmacodynamic describes what the
drug does to the body
• Absorption: First, absorption from the site of
administration permits entry of the drug (either
directly or indirectly) into plasma.
• Distribution: Second, the drug may reversibly leave
the bloodstream and distribute though out the body
of specific tissue
• Metabolism: Third, the drug may be metabolism by
the liver or other tissues.
• Elimination: Finally, the drug and its metabolites are
eliminated from the body in urine, bile, or feces.
