Pest
A pest is any organism that
1)That competes with human
  beings,domestic animals for
  food or water.
2) Injures humans,domestic
  animals,desirable
  plants,structures or
  possessions.
3) Transmits diseases to these.
4)Annoys humans or domestic
Types of Pests
 Insects such as
  cockroach,termite,beetle, and fleas.
 Arthropods:8 legged insects,tikes spiders
  etc.
 Microbial organisms such as bacteria.
 Weeds.
 Molluscs: such as snails, slugs and ship
  worms.
 Vertebrates such as mice and other rodents.
Pest Control Goals

 Prevention: keeping pest from
  becoming a problem
 Suppression: Reducing pest
no. or damage to an acceptable
  level.
 Eradication: destroying an
  entire pest population.
Common pests
 Bed bugs
 Beetles
            1) Biscuit Beetles
            2) Carpet Beetles
            3) Furniture Beetles.
 Silver fish
 Cockroaches
 Fleas
 Lice
Continue…………
 Moth
 Ants
 Termites
 Flies
 Mosquitoes
 Mices and rats
 Funji /FUNGUS (wet and Dry)
Bed Bugs
continue bed
bugs…………………..
 These are tiny parasites that feed on blood of humans
    and other animals.
 They are more of nuisance than a danger , can cause
severe irritation, loss of sleep,&lack of energy.
 Cannot fly, can crawl in clothing,
 Main peculiarity is day time they hide while in night
    they come out.
 These hide in crevices of
    beds,furniture,upholestry,wallpaper and skirting
boards.and there eggs are laid in crevices.
 These leave blood stains on bed sheet.
 To eradicate them apply Fumigation .or thick
    kerosene oil emulsion is effective.
Beetles:
Continue beetles……………
Biscuit Beetle:
 Brown dense layer hair on their body.
 Not dangerous, but they can be a nuisance when they
  infest on a food cupboard.
 These can attack cereal products and can infest some
  poisinous substances like STRYCHINNE.
Silver Fish
Continue silver fish………..
 These sre the silver grey insect that look like minute fish
  without fins.
 1cm or less than it in length.
 Nocturnal in nature, found in moist areas.
 Feed upon cellulosic material like paper, cotton etc.
Prevention:
 keep moist area clean and treat it with some insecticide
e.g. Pyrethrum & sodium Fluoride crystals.
Fleas
Continue Fleas………..
 These are common Nuisance.these are transferred from
grass to dogs or cats which in turn can transfer to
   humans.
 These are smooth, oval and greyish in color.usually laid
in hosts bedding and hatches at room temp.
 These thrive in dark, humid places and feed upon
   organic matter.including faeces of adults.

 Prevention:
 the area should be sprayed with an insectiside that will
kill adult fleas, their eggs, and Pupeae.
Lices
Continue……..
 These are insects attracte to human hair.these are grey
  and 3mm in size.
 These usually pass from one person to other either by
  pilllows upholestry etc.
 These cause irritating bites on the scalp and the scratching
due to it may cuase infections.
Prevention:
 pillow cases ,head rest covers on chairs should be
  changed and cleaned frequently.
 Head boards should be wiped daily.
 In case of infestation medically shampoo is used for lice
and the belongings of the said person should not be used
  like comb ,towel etc
Moth
Continue ………..
 These are the organisms which can damage the
  cloths,food products like flour,grains etc.
 The majority of the species are small, rather drab colored
moths.pale in color or yellowish wheatish.
Cloth moths feed upon on dried plant and animal
  materials.digest the keratin of hair.
Damage the articles like fabrics etc make holes in
  them.espaecially in natural fabrics.
Prevention:
 An insectiside can prevent them/.
 In case of stored food proper sanitation,
 Be sure that areas where food is prepared ,stored are
  cleaned regularly.
 Don’t apply insectiside in food preparation areas.
Termites
Termites continue……
 These are the social insects like ants also caleed as white
  ants.
 At the suraface, ground termites create mud tubes going
from soil to wooden portions of a structure.
 These tubes provide a protective highway for termites to
  attack a building.
 There access may be through:
          construction joints,cracks,plumbing,electrical
  penetartions etc.
Ground termites require three things to survive: food(wood or
  other cellulose material),moisture,and tropical environment.
Preevention:
Use termite killer fliud .
During construction the wood should be treated with
  varnish/sodium arsenate etc.
Cock roaches:
 Nocturnal insects that spend most of time in
  carcks ,drainsor dark crevices.
 Cockroaches carry food poisioning bacteria in
their bodies that are rsponsible for causing
  dysentry and gastroenteritis.
 Espaecially Feed upon on faecal matter .
Prevention

Cockroach killer is used to kill cockroaches.
Ants
 These invade in large numbers in search of food
  especilly sweet items.
 Iftheir nest is located it should be destroyed by
putting 2 table spoons of carbon bisulphide or
apply borax solution.a and clean or empty the
  respective areas.
 Boiling water over the nest can kill the ants
  repeatedly.
Flies
 These are flithy insects dangerous to health as
they contaminate food, causing diseases such as
  typhoid,cholera,dysentry and so on.
 They carry disease germs on their legs and in
  their saliva
 Burn all the garbage where from they get
  breeded.
 A fly poison /formalin can be used to kill all these.
Mosquitoes
 They transmit diseases like malaria, filaria and
    yellow fever.
 As there life cycle begins in water
 Do not allow water to get stagnant. Cover drains
    and put kerosene.
 Put gauze on windows to prevent their entry in
    areas.
 An eco friendly method for the control of
mosquitoes is to place pots of water around the
property for a week long. During this time the
mosquitoes lay their eggs in the water. before the
eggs can develop this water should be discarded.
