The Andes Mountains stretch along the western edge of South America from Venezuela to Tierra del Fuego. They are the longest continental mountain range in the world and contain the highest point in both Peru and South America, Mount Huascarán at 6,768 meters. The Peruvian Andes are home to diverse ecosystems and wildlife as well as the origins of many ancient civilizations that thrived at high altitudes in the mountains.
