Race, Class and Gender
Franklin (1987) also alluded that patriarchy did not serve black men; the notion of black men being
domineering over groups is questionable. Besides, Pleck (2008) claimed that the male heterosexual
homosexual dichotomy is used as the main symbolic tool defining the rankings of masculinity.
Highlighting racial politics, it would be interesting to have a study focusing on the power relations
between white gay men and black heterosexual men. This is premised on the stance that the racial
hierarchy, regardless of its dismissal, seems to continue to characterise socio economic relations.
???? stated that raceremains a factor because it is deeply embedded within the subconscious, a

Erasmus (2008) stated that apartheid discourse merged race, class, culture and nation together.
While MacDonald (2006) argued that apartheid is rightly perceived as racism, it was also racialist.
Racialists view race as a source of identity which marks difference between human beings. They
regard identities as axes of political institutions and then urge states to be organized on the basis of
race. Whitehead and Barret (2001) stated that in white supremacist contexts, black masculinities
play symbolic roles for white gender constructions whereby whiteness and white men and women
are the norm and blackness is the Other.
Seekings (2008) buttresses this viewpoint as he argued that apartheid was a system aimed at
ordering society and explicitly according to racial categories and this was achieved utilizing state
power and its apparatuses. Apartheid entrenched radicalized identities and fostered racial division
at the same time as exacerbating inequality in the distribution of income (Seekings, 2008: 5).
Seekings (2008) also cited that the apartheid regime had three broad objectives. The first one was
ideological in effort to maintain racial purity; policies prohibiting inter racial marriage were
formulated. Residential segregation was also enacted as part of this endeavour. Another objective
cited by Seekings (2008) is that apartheid was utilized to establish and maintain economic privilege

Positive And Bad Effects Of Facebook
Facebook is a famous social networking site that makes it easy to connect and socialize with
family, friends and even strangers online. Through this site, the world feels closer since it can
link you to people from thousands of miles away in just a click. And because of its popularity,
other websites collaborated with Facebook. This means a single Facebook account can sign in to
different services through the Web. Since then, Facebook has experienced intense growth and
reached more than a billion users and is still growing swiftly. Facebook can be very beneficial but
spending too much time on it can ruin a person s life too. Although Facebook helps in connecting
and communicating with people across the globe, it also has negative effects because it changes
lifestyle, it destroys relationship and it invades privacy. First, the danger of having Facebook is that

Joy Womack Biography
I d like to contribute to this post because I have been following for a long time. Before I go on to
anything critical, I have to say I watch Joy Womack s vlogs every day and am highly appreciative
of the window into her life. Whether or not we all agree on her choices, she is sharing something
unique and is making her dreams come true before our very eyes.
I have actually followed her story since I came across the New York Times coverage on youtube
when she was fifteen. Back then she was so fascinating and just absorbed everything the Russian
school was giving her. Now she is older and more experienced, we are perhaps more inclined to
think negatively about her given the past few years events; an adult no longer a child.
I enjoy watching her dance, though I do see inconsistencies in her performances, depending on her
state of mind. I find her technique solid and highly classical, ... Show more content on

She does seem to make some questionable choices with exactly how much she shares, things that
might jeopardize her professionalism, but nothing seems to have impacted her negatively yet. It
does give us something to talk about though, that we wouldn t otherwise know.
I am a bit dubious about her exhaustive self promotion. Most dancers do not share this desire, but
I like to think it is part of her creative side sharing her art with the world, as opposed to anything
else.
I would also remind her prima friends how in control she is of what she actually shares with us.
She doesn t edit out falls or slips but there are times she cuts footage abruptly mid movement; the
only reason I can think is because of something she doesn t want us to see. I can t blame a dancer
for wanting us to see them at their best, but you can t have it both ways. You have to either share
everything or don t claim to. She also seems all over the place with her attitude to her

Naturalism in Russia and the Creation of the Moscow Art...
The earliest of the modern theatre movement was naturalism. Russia lagged behind the rest of
Europe, as far as theatre was concerned. That point was proven when the Meiningen Players
performed in Russia. The Meiningen Players created not only a set, but also an environment in
which they are a part of (Gascoigne 265). Russian producers saw, first hand, how far behind they
were. The Imperial Theatre system spent most of its resources on opera and ballet while neglecting
legitimate theatre. Most of the administrative staff was composed of government appointees who
had little or no interest of theatrical production. There was no effort to harmonize sets and costumes
to create a unified impression (Londre 359). This changed, however,... Show more content on

The theatre had a repertoire of plays with such playwrights as Sophocles, Shakespeare, Tolstoy,
Shakespeare, Ibsen and reluctantly Anton Chekov (Londre 361). Anton Chekov rose from poverty
to study medicine at the University of Moscow while supporting himself and his family. Chekov
initially gained fame as the author of short stories while at the same time opening a medical
practice. He began to write one act farces, but after writing a full length that was rejected by the
Alexandry Theatre, Chekov vowed to write only trifles from then on. However, he wrote another
full length play, The Seagull, which was chosen to be performed at the Alexandry Theatre for a
benefit without first being read. Theatre patrons filled the theatre expecting to see a comedy,
instead seeing a play that was unrehearsed and poorly performed. Audience members soon
showed their displeasure and the play was a flop. Chekov left St. Petersburg and promised he
would never write a play to be produced again (361). Neimirovich Danchenko was an admirer of
Chekov s work and felt The Seagull would be perfect for the Moscow Art Theatre, though
Stanislavsky was not sure. Chekov initially turned down a meeting with Neimirovich Danchenko,
but agreed after a second invitation and reluctantly agreed to allow them to stage the play. The
Seagull opened at the Moscow Art Theatre in 1898. The audience was won over by the simplicity
and truthfulness of the acting and the poignancy in the relationships

Prediction of Age, Gender and Personality Traits Using Facebook Data
Manali Bhalgat
Introduction
In the last decade, social networks like Facebook [1] have emerged as popular medium of social
interaction and information dissemination. From a social web data mining perspective, Facebook
stores a wealth of data about people and their interests. As more and more users are creating their
own content on Facebook, there is a growing interest to mine this data for use in personalized
information access services, recommender systems, tailored advertisements, and other applications
that can benefit from personalization.

Related Work
In this section, we discuss the recent research work related to techniques for predicting age, gender
and personality based on the information available on social networking sites. Most studies predict
personality from the language used by a person to update status or chat in social network.
According to recent works based on study of function words such as pronouns, conjunctions,
articles and prepositions, the elderly use more future tense words and pronouns in their plural
forms. The same studies show that males use more articles and females make heavy use of first
person singular pronouns. In [7], the authors state that even with its challenges, text
categorization is a reliable approach to identify the age and gender of people in social network
communication. Goldbeck et al., in [3], show that people of different age groups talked about
different topics. For example, those within the age group of 13 to 18 mostly discussed activities
related to school, 19 to 22 year olds talked about university/college.
Many efforts have been made by researchers to analyze the words used by humans to understand
their psychology [2]. Public information of a group of Facebook users was collected by the
authors of [6]. They were able to predict the Big five personality traits of the users using this data
within 89% accuracy.

Birth Control Technologies
Introduction:
I picked the topic of Birth Control Technologies because I am very interested in seeing how
things have changed over time whether positive or negative when it comes to birth control. I do
believe the usage of birth control is important when it comes to helping control the growth of the
population. What other purposes does it serve? How did it become such a politically driven issue?
Government always feels the need to step in and control people s lives but is it really necessary. It
also has become evident that women are pressured into taking precautions when it comes to sex and
reproduction. Whereas, men are not required to have the same responsibility even though several
different methods of contraception have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time went on more scientists, delved into the birth control realm to modernize some of the
technology that was currently present. For example, in 1839 Charles Goodyear invents more than
tires. He develops the technology to vulcanize rubber and puts it to use manufacturing rubber
condoms, intrauterine devices, douching syringes, and womb veils .
However, there was a point in time when Anthony Comstock, a devout Christian from Connecticut
was appalled by what he saw in the city s streets. It seemed to him that the town was packed with
prostitutes and pornography. In the late 1860s, Comstock began supplying the police with
information for raids on sex trade merchants and became quite famous with his anti obscenity
crusade. Comstock was certain that the availability of contraceptives alone promoted lust and
lewdness. Which brought about the Comstock Act of 1873 that prohibited advertisements,
information, distribution of birth control, and allowing the postal service to confiscate birth control
sold through the mail in the United States. Basically making birth control a federal crime. It is
even went as far as making it illegal for married couples in the state of Connecticut to use birth
control.
However, with all of Comstock s efforts that did not stop the crusade of Margaret Sanger a birth
control advocate and founder of The American Birth Control League, the precursor to the Planned

These four categories are compiled to create a composite score, and are referred to as the Armed
Forces Qualification Test (AFQT). The remaining six tests are used to identify which specialty
they would be the most successful in. AFQT scores are represented as percentiles in the range of
1 to 99. The percentile score indicates how a candidate s score compares to a reference group of
test takers. If an ASVAB candidate has an AFQT score of 65, this implies that their score is
higher than 65% of the test takers in the reference sample group. The formula for AFQT scores
is: AFQT = MK + AR + 2xVE, where MK = Your Mathematics Knowledge Scores AR = Your
Arithmetic Knowledge Scores VE = PC + WK = Your Paragraph Comprehension (PC) scores +
Your Word Knowledge Scores (WK). This score is then converted to a percentile by comparing it
to scores from the representative sample group. (Test Guide, 2017, no page) After meeting the first
few requirements, you must take the ASVAB test, which covers four areas critical to the Air Force
mission: arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension and mathematics
knowledge. The ASVAB is used to get a snapshot of your current skills and abilities. This helps the
Air Force identify your strengths to determine the career best suited for your future success. After

Performative Documentary
A performative role is that which emphasizes a hidden aspect of performance in a film either as a
subject or the filmmaker. According to Bruzzi (2000), performative documentary is a speech act;
it both describes and performs an action. A documentary only comes into being as it is performed,
and only becomes meaningful as a negotiation between performance and reality. Their role is to
make the audience feel a better sense of reality in the filmand how it is being dramatized. The more
a documentary draws attention to its self, the further it gets from what it represents (Nichols,
1994: 97). The function of this role gives a descriptive explanation of how the film is being
constructed: performance penetrate every aspect of our social life; therefore, it is essential to...

Why I Should Be Safe From The Giant Mice
At last the walking was over. The Sfrums and I stopped like a backwards wave, where they start
with there hands up then put there hands down when it comes to them. A day and a half of
walking from behind the wall to the rug was finally over. And at that stop, I saw a whole new
beginning.
Connor, welcome to your new home! My mom said cheerfully, You should be safe from the giant

I had a bad feeling about this dark new town of ours, this new town we named Rug had darkness to
it. Maybe this change wouldn t be good after all. Or, it could be a great place to live.

A criminal started stealing family s possessions from their new homes and keeping it for him or

couldn t agree. Some were for a police force and others said our town was too small. Others said to
have only a few guys and be like a town watch.
It was a boring few hours while I was sitting at the steps with the other children in the town. We all
get along well but haven t talked to them since the move. Things have been tiring and this is only
our first day here. Finally the arguing was over and the new wooden doors creaked open with
parents and adults spilling out. Some frustrated, others satisfied.
Lets go Connor My dad said in a bitter tone. We re out of here.
We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking
back to their little home, which was on the same street as everyone else s shack. My Parents and I
were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance.
Why are you to angry? I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we
walked along the walkway to the houses. Is it about what happened in the town hall?

what everyone else thought in there. What I m angry about is how you mother didn t take my side!

Impact of Technology on the Animation Industry Essay
Impact of Technology on the Animation Industry
In 1988, the live action and animation hybrid Who Framed Roger Rabbit introduced a whole new
way of making animation movies (Elkins, 2003). The three dimensional rendering and the
interaction between live actors, animated figures and environment was revolutionary at that time
(Elkins, 2003). Three years later, in 1991, Beauty and the Beast was an Oscar nominee for best
picture, which showed how popular this genre had become (Elkins, 2003). Since then, rapid
technological changes have improved the quality of animation movies. The use of computers sat a
new standard for animating, with the first computer animated feature released less than ten years
ago (DreamWorks, 2004). This essay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not possible to rush art, as they argue, and the process goes through several stages before the
movie is finished. After the art department has added colour and visual looks on figures and
surfaces, three dimensional models are made on computers. This is done by either creating a
sculpture which is scanned or by direct modeling using computer software. Hinges are added to
move the figures, and a character like Woody in Monster Inc. has as much as a hundred hinges in
his face. After the models are made, they are dressed, to make a proper visualization. When making
the shots, virtual cameras are used to record different scenes. Without the aid of the new technology,
it would be impossible to achieve the same results.
After the decision has been made on which virtual camera shot to use, the figures are animated to
create the scene (Pixar, 2004a). At Pixar, they do not paint or draw the figures in the final stage, but
use the ones already made. By using the hinges, the figures are controlled like puppeteers, creating
movement and different emotions. This provides the movie makers with options they would not
have without the new technology. Then, shadows and lighting are added, before the information is
put together to a film in a computer system. This process adds motion blur to the animation. Each
frame of 1/24 seconds screen time takes at least six hours of processing,

Capitalism for The Better, Socialism for The Worse...
Capitalism for The Better, Socialism for The Worse
Failing or profitable government? There are various types of economies in the the world, of the
various types they can be narrowed down to the two most common which are capitalist and
socialist economies. Capitalism is a way of organizing an economy so that the things that are used
to make and transport products are owned by individual people and companies rather than by the
government (Merriam Webster). Socialismis a way of organizing a society in which major
industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and

In the state lead economy, the government owns the means of production, but the organization is
ran by capitalists methods. Capitalism promotes competition in the economy which has positive
outcomes. Competition generates higher quality products and more effective techniques in
businesses. Competition is the only reason the government plays a role in capitalism, and that role
is protection from fraud and force. The only purpose of government would be to protect its citizens
from force or fraud (Reisman, George).
Socialism is considered the weak; less effective form of economy. By failing to emphasize
incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail
(Mark Perry, 1995). It is the type of organization that involves the government owning and
controlling the major industries and prosperous companies in the country. The fact that socialism
disregards private property rights in establishing incentives for economic development and growth
is another reason why socialism fails. Socialism robs citizens of their human rights to private
property, but it does grant the right to an education, to work, and free health care and transportation.
Unlike capitalism that is based on supply and demand, in a socialist economy, the government
regulates the quantity of products produced and distributed. The government also

Service and Asset Privatization Essay example
The rapid interest in privatization stroked when all the levels of government economies were
persistently challenging in running their operations during last two to three decades of twentieth
century (Shirley, 1992). Since then, privatization of public sectors has been a key factor of
structural reform programs in both developed and developing countries (Sheshinski Lopez Calva,
2003). The process of transferring ownership of public services from the public sector(the part
which is controlled by government) to private sectors (the part which is owned and controlled by
private party) is called privatization(Investopia, 2013). According to Sarah E. Gollust and Peter D.

Primarily, privatization is to achieve higher allocation and productive efficiency and to strengthen
the role of private sector in the economy (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). They describe that
these two objectives are the main reasons behind government contracting its sectors to private
parties and are associated with microeconomic efficiency. Secondarily, it is to improve the public
sector s financial health and to free resources for allocation in other important areas of government
activity usually related to social policy (Sheshinski Lopez Calva, 2003). For the next ones, they
explain that these reduce the level of borrowing and reallocate the possible expenditure towards
social policy areas, and these are connected to public sector finance.
Literature Review: In this research, I have conducted studies on three important aspect of public
sector where privatization has taken place and from which I could draw a conclusive end. The first
among them is the privatization of state prison. The first privatization of prison in United States was
done in 1986 and soon after, the numbers continue to increase rapidly (Burkhardt, 2009). From
theory driven historical analysis, he finds out that the rising population, interventionist federal
courts, and the link between the private contractors and members of state governments are the
causing factors of state prison privatization. In

Dr. Seuss Instruments
The synopsis of the process of the Dr. Seuss theme instrument. The design of our project was
based upon the instruments seen in the Dr. Seuss novels. The instrument is multi colored and
similar to the color scheme found on the cover of the book, Oh, the Places You ll Go. The shape
and unique structure are also attributed to many distinctive instruments found in Dr. Seuss
stories. We decided to have two mouthpieces available, so two people can play the instrument at
the same time and the overall structure characterizes the disproportionate instruments seen in
the books. Going with the theme, the sound created is also very interesting. When assembling
the instrument, we had stuck wax paper between the parts of the pipe, creating a kazoo like
sound. We had chosen to use PVC pipes in order to lock in the sound, leaving no air to escape,
and funnels in order to amplify the sound being given off. Before our final design, there had
happened to be another idea we were going for. The design had included a chamber that would

Arsenic Research Paper
Although arsenic is mostly known for its poison, the lesser known about is its curative aspects.
Before the introduction of penicillin, arsenic was used in the treatment of syphilis. However, today
arsenic has been replaced by sulfa drugs and antibiotics. Recently, there has been a few studies
researching the curative effect of arsenic. Previously in Shanghai, China, a group of researchers
had discovered a remedy for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) which is a very lethal. They
discovered that all trans retinoic acid (ATRA) can be used to fight APL. Shorty after, a more
potent drug that fights APL was found in a traditional Chinese cure. This all started when a group
of researchers from the Harbin Medical University, Zhang Ting Dong and

How Does Gmo Affect Society
The Impact of Genetically Modified Food on Society Genetically modified foods, also known as
GMOs, are a debated issue in today s society. People argue that all this new technology is causing
more harm than it is good. GMOs are not anything new: humans have been modifying crops long
before the introduction of genetics and modern biotechnology. What are genetically modified
foods? About 8000 years ago, humans began practicing agriculture in order to have a sustainable
food source. To ensure that their crops didn t perish because of the climate, pests, or other
circumstances, they began to select which plants were the best to grow and harvest; all this was in
order to have a better food supply, less loss of crops, or better nutritional content.... Show more

However, organizations such as the National Research Council, the American Association for the
Advancement of Science, and the American Medical Association have issued studies or statements
regarding the safety of GMOs indicating that there is no evidence that GMOs present unique
safety risks compared to conventionally bred products (Acosta, 2014). In fact, these studies have
shown that the benefits of supporting the production of GM foods far outweigh the risks; hence,
there should be no immediate reason to ban or restrict the research and improvement of such food
products. Nevertheless, it would be beneficial to monitor and regulate the advancement of GMOs,
and occasionally update the public on the progress that has been made and how this will affect
their food products. Presently, the United States does not have any federal legislation that is
specific to genetically modified organisms (GMOs) (Acosta, 2014). Instead, GMOs are regulated
by way of legislations pertaining to the different areas that GMOs might encompass. This is because
the United States approach to regulating GMOs is [focused] on the nature of the products, rather
than the process in which they were produced (Acosta,

Pain is often an unpleasant part of being human. The experience is different for every individual

A number of synthetic cannabinoids have been refined, produced and used in clinical drug trials
and have exhibited various levels of effectiveness, one of the more promising of these synthetic
cannabinoids is Nabilone. Although Nabilone is not identical to THC it is chemically similar, and
has shown promise as an effective treatment for Fibromyalgia, but with some dosage inhibiting
negative effects (Shrabek et al., 2008; Beaulieu, 2006).
For some time now neuropathic pain has been exceptionally hard to treat, and evidence suggests
that the continuation of using ineffective opioids is irresponsible. Behavioural studies of rats with
allodynia have shown that the use of cannabinoids can significantly reduce the effects of
neuropathic pain (Herzberg et al., 1997). Furthermore THC and CBD have repeatedly shown their
strength as an analgesic in multiple animal based models and studies (Pertwee, 2006). These anti
nociceptive benefits appear to be affected primarily by the CB1 receptor, but some data also
suggests that the CB2 receptor also plays an integral role in the intervention of chronic and

High Education And Higher Education
Imagine a world with no college debt, a higher education equally available to all young people,
and no college price barriers. These were the main goals of President Truman in his 1974
commission on Higher Education. Now, let us fast forward forty years and take a look at the
higher education system, which suffered an increase of one hundred and ten percent. Eighty five
percent of college graduates are forced to move back home with their parents due to college debt,
forty two with debt currently live paycheck to paycheck, and seventeen percent delay buying a new
home, and having children due to their student financial loans (Surprising Side Effects of College
Costs ). Higher educationinstitutions increasing their costs have a greater impact on students than
just being in debt; the increase I price also results in a countless number of students considering a
different alternative for their higher education, future careers, and major life decisions.
When thinking about the American Dream in today s society, wealth, and a flourishing career,
seems to have a direct correlation with happiness. But is this American Dream worth an
overwhelming amount of debt? The Project on Student Debt conducted a survey, which showed
that seventy one percent of college students had a student loan debt averaging $29,400 per student.
Because of this alarming dollar amount, students tend to settle for two year community colleges to
obtain a degree. Although this seems like a good idea in

History of TPM
TPM, a unique Japanese system of managerial expertise, was created in 1971, based on the PM
(preventive maintenance or productive maintenance) concept introduced from the United States in
the 1950s through the 1960s. Subsequently, in the 1970s through the 1980s, TPM gradually
developed as its remarkable achievements because recognized. TPM now permeates entire
company structures, every line of business, and all parts of the world; this is evidenced by a sharp
increase in the number of business establishments receiving PM awards based on TPM, the shift
from production sector TPM to company wide TPM, and the growing number of countries in which
TPM is practiced.

No man can be a good citizen unless he has a wage more than sufficient to cover the bare cost of
living, and hours of labor short enough so that after his day s work is done he will have time and
energy to bear his share in the management of the community, to help in carrying the general load.
We keep countless men from being good citizens by the conditions of life with which we surround
them. We need comprehensive workmen s compensation acts, both State and national laws to
regulate child labor and work for women, said 26th president of United StatesTheodore Roosevelt
as he was explaining how industrialization had ruined people s lives ( Colby 515).
Industrialization is defined as the large scale introduction of manufacturing, advanced technical
enterprises, and other productive economic activity into a society. Industrialization is a huge
aspect of society and especially in America. After the American Civil War in 1861, a lot southern
plantation owners were living in poverty because they lost their land. Emancipated slaves were
also living in poverty because most them didn t have a job, but as industrialization grew in
America, more people were attracted to the cities up North. A lot of southerners and emancipated
slaves traveled up North because of job opportunities. But this proved to be a horrible mistake.
These people were working in gruesome conditions and were exploited. So the question is, what

The Dreamers By Dave Isay
What really defines a dreamer? Is it the children who have unrealistic dreams of playing in the
big leagues or is it someone who has a plan and will go out of his or her way to achieve it? Both
of these options can be true. Dreamers are special in this world because they have hope for
something they believe in. Nothing is more fascinating than seeing an individual who never gave
up and worked extremely hard to reach their goal. Having read only three sections so far, I have
explored the individual s purpose and passion for the work they pursue. The Dreamers section has
made me analyze what I have and want with my future career. Overall, the elements of the book
defining dreamers explains the meaning of a risktaker, the hard work and dedication involved, and
the passion it takes to reach your goals.
Dave Isay strongly connects with his readers in the Dreamers section of Callings. Adventure and
purpose surround this section especially with the bridge tender, street astronomer, and the NBA
referee story. Defining a dreamer can be determined in many ways. As said before, adventure and
purpose are the main components of a dreamer. The information gained from this section is that
dreamers have this sense of hope and passion for the calling they pursue no matter what it is.
Individuals such as Herman Heyn lived out their dream by performing certain tasks. Herman
made a living by working as a street corner astronomer and never worked a day in his life because

The game is one of the most dominant games in the global market today, which is available in 7

South Korea, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. Despite many scholars believe that the

The WoW is set in a high fantasy world where players are able to select race based avatars races

Azeroth where they find themselves in the midst of an ongoing battle between two warring
factions, the Alliance and the Horde. Players kill monsters and complete quests in order to gain
experience and gears . They can also learn professions such as cooking, fishing, and blacksmithing,
which enable them to craft items like real world human beings (Mccreery). While this might seem
to be like Plato s Republic, in fact, it still involves extreme stereotypes, due to its euro centrism and

easy to arrive at a decision. You see, both hammock and tent camping have their pros and their
cons, so trying to declare one as absolutely better than the other is a fool s game.
Today, we re going to be playing the fool, so you don t have to.

A quality camping hammock will last you for a couple of years and will be backed by a warranty
of some sort, but time will eventually take its toll and it will succumb to wear and tear far sooner
than a quality tent.
Conclusion
There are a significant number of reasons to purchase a tent instead of a camping hammock. The
only problem is that there are also a significant number of reasons to purchase a camping instead of
a tent. Both have their supporters and detractors, all of whom are capable of making excellent
arguments to support their cause.
If you re planning a camping trip with a couple of friends and are able to convince them all to

decent tent will give you the space you need and will utilize superior ventilation to ensure things

Analysis Of Nicholas Carr, Sherry Trukle And Clive Thompsom
Sixing Jiao Dr. Tsurska Oct. 14th, 2015 SDCC 4 Summary Synthesis Despite the obvious
difference in their approaches to argue, Nicholas Carr, Sherry Trukle and Clive Thompsom have
a common focus: The effect of shared information. Nicholas Carr mainly focus on sharing of
objective information, the information that is related to science and fact. In the meaning time,
Sherry Turkle writes about sharing of subjective information, the personal and emotional
messages that we deliver on social media. Clive Thompsom talks about the sharing of both kinds
of information. However, their views about sharing of information are totally different. The
similarities and conflicts between their arguments can actually help us to compare and
crystallize those different points of view on sharing information. In his Is Google Making Us
Stupid?, Nicholas Carr contends that the overload of information is chipping away his capacity
for concentration and contemplation (315). He admits with easy accessibility of information
online, the process of research has became much simpler(Carr 315). Yet such benefit comes with

The Global Financial Crisis Of Broward College
Research Paper: The Global Financial Crisis
Michelle Beira
Broward College
There have been few financial crises in the United States. The Global Financial Crisis of 2008 to
2009 was the most recent and before that was The Great Depression of the 1930s. The Global
Financial Crisis actually began in 2007 when prices of homes tanked. It not only affected the U.S.
but it also affected economies overseas. The entire investment banking industry, some of the biggest
insurance companies, enterprises government used for mortgage lending, top mortgage lenders, the
largest savings and loan companies, and two of the largest commercial banks were many of the
financial sectors affected by the crisis. Banks stopped making loans, share prices plunged
throughout the world and most of the world plummeted into a recession (The Financial Crisis of
2008: Year In Review 2008, 2009, para. 1). Globalization of financial markets began after the
Depression and World War II. After the Great Depressionand World War II there was much
physical and economic ruin in Europe, Asia and parts of Africa which allowed the U.S. to
become a leader in the world financial system. Top world leaders like France, Germany, Britain
and Japan were economically and financially unstable. The U.S. was the only stable capitalist
country which means it was capable of determining the terms of a new world economic order (

The Periodontal Disease ( Dental Plaque )
The periodontal diseases are highly prevalent and can affect up to 90% of the worldwide
population. Gingivitis ,the mildest form of periodontal disease, is caused by the bacterial biofilm
(dental plaque) that accumulates on teeth adjacent to the gingiva (gums). However, gingivitis does
not affect the underlying supporting structures of the teeth and is reversible. Gingivitis, the
mildest form of periodontal disease ,is highly prevalent and readily reversible by simple, effective
oral hygiene. Gingivitis affects 50 90% of adults worldwide, depending on its precise definition3.
Inflammation that extends deep into the tissues and causes loss of supporting connective tissue
and alveolar bone is known as periodontitis. Periodontitis results in the formation of soft tissue
pockets or deepened crevices between the gingiva and tooth root. Severe periodontitis can result in
loosening of teeth, occasional pain and discomfort, impaired mastication, and eventual tooth loss.
Although prevalence estimates differ on the basis of how the disease is defined, the prevalence,
severity, and rate of disease progression clearly varies worldwide.4,5. Periodontitis is generally
more prevalent in developing countries,6 although disease may not necessarily be extensive or
severe in indigenous populations 7.

Analysis Of The Poem Oranges And Small Town With One...
Poetry is a creative art expressed through words and created through passion, prior experience
and multiple outer influences. Gary Soto is a famous poet who blossomed in the late 20th
century. Soto used different variations of poetry tools to create expressive poems based on his
own life experience. While Soto wrote many different poems, the poems Oranges and Small Town
With One Road stand out and can be deeply analyzed. Both poems are strongly emphasized with
his past experiences in life. Gary Soto writes poems about hope, diversity and harshness of life,
because he relates to his own personal experience while conveying his meaning through the poems.
Gary Soto was born in Fresno, California in April 12, 1952. Soto s grandparents were immigrants
from mexico, leading to him being born to a mexican american working family which struggled to
find work( Gary Soto, Poetry foundation). Soto s father died when he was five which affected his
future poetry. Growing up as a mexican in the middle of the 20th century, Gary was exposed to
the harshness of belonging to a mexican family in america which he later wrote in his poetry(
Gary Soto, Poets.org). Gary started working in the fields and factories at a young age, he was not
academically motivated in grade school but became interested in poetry in high school( Gary Soto,

outstanding greatness, but only a man and nothing more. They do not see Him as Son of God but

Most Christians today insist Jesus was crucified and died on the cross and two days later He was
resurrected.
Christians believe in the concept of original sin. Humans are born sinners as they bear the
burden of Adam and Eve. While Muslims do not believe in the original sin because in the Qur an
God forgave Adam for what he had done and no one should be made to bear the burden of
someone else s sin or mistake because it is unfair.
3. ONE OF THE FIVE PILLARS IS PRAYER
3.1 Write a short paragraph on the rituals and frequency of this prayer.
Salah Muslims are expected to pray five times per day. This will occur at midday, late afternoon,
after sunset and at night. During these breaks a call is made from the minaret calling the people
to pray. Before one prays, a purification ritual will take place. This ritual is that a person must
wash themselves in clean running water, in the order of hands, mouth, nose, face, arms and then
wet hands are run over the head and neck, then the ears and finally the feet. During the prayer it
also involves specific postures which are standing, stooping, kneeling and also sitting. Whilst

Power Of Words In Othello
In Othello words have the ability to steer the plot, to form characters identities and to engage the
audience as active participants in the play.
In Shakespeare s Othello, the lack of a narrator, empowers the words spoken by the characters to

serve as proof as the power of words will be discussed by, firstly, explaining the effect that words,
and the lack thereof, have on characters and ultimately on the plot. Thereafter, the use of certain
words to form perceived impressions of characters will be argued. Lastly, an elaboration on how
words are used to involve the audience in the play.
Words can have a positive or negative effect on characters (Kaleba Osherow, 2012), it can lead to a
character being confident or lead to the deterioration of a character s self concept (as seen in the
case of Othello). We see this in the first act when Othello does not hide from confrontation, but
instead invites Brabanzio to come. Not I. I must be found. My parts, my title, and my perfect soul
shall manifest me rightly. (Shakespeare, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The limited allowances in terms of knowledge and outspokenness of women, in this play creates a
sense of dramatic irony as the audience awaits Emilia to reveal her participation in Iago s plan
(Kaleba Osherow, 2012). In Othello all can be avoided if Emilia had known what Iago s plan is
and not only obeying him blindly as expected from a good wife (Levine, 1987). In this case,
Emilia s ignorance leaves her powerless to prevent the death of her mistress, but words empower
her when she speaks out and tells the truth. Iago s manipulative words play on Othello s
insecurities, and keeps Emilia loyal and obedient, this drives the plot to the ending of Othello,
Desdemona and Emilia s

Obasan Theme Essay
Prompt: The most important themes in literature are sometimes developed in scenes in which a
death or deaths take place. Choose a novel or play and write a well organized essay in which you
show how a specific death scene helps to illuminate the meaning of the work as a whole. Avoid
mere plot summary. The novel Obasan, by Joy Kogawa, is a historical fictionnovel that takes place
in multiple settings, yet they all have one thing in common: they were based mostly on War World
II. Throughout this novel, a frequently brought up topic is death: it s shown to be one of the main
ideas in this novel, both literal and figurative. The first death to be introduced was the death of
Naomi s uncle, Sam. It shows in the novel that uncle Sam is a big part of Naomi s life, as she
grew up with him and Obasan instead of her parents. The death of her uncle had been
unexpected, as Obasan had said, There was no knowing. Death had been personified in They
stuck tubes into his wrists like grafting on a tree but Death won against the medical artistry to
exaggerate a type of hold Death had on Naomi s uncle. This had set a lot of confusion and thought
as to what had caused it and what he was thinking as well as giving Obasan a frightening... Show

in the sun to continue describing the insurmountable pain being caused. Later on in the novel, she
concludes the novel by saying goodbye to her dead family, as if it took her this long to admit to
herself these people were dead her father, her mother, relatives and ancestors. she says My loved

While MacDonald (2006) argued that apartheid is rightly perceived as racism, it was also racialist. Racialists view race as a source of identity which marks difference between human beings. They regard identities as axes of political institutions and then urge states to be organized on the basis of race. Whitehead and Barret (2001) stated that in white supremacist contexts, black masculinities play symbolic roles for white gender constructions whereby whiteness and white men and women are the norm and blackness is the Other. Seekings (2008) buttresses this viewpoint as he argued that apartheid was a system aimed at ordering society and explicitly according to racial categories and this was achieved utilizing state power and its apparatuses. Apartheid entrenched radicalized identities and fostered racial division at the same time as exacerbating inequality in the distribution of income (Seekings, 2008: 5). Seekings (2008) also cited that the apartheid regime had three broad objectives. The first one was ideological in effort to maintain racial purity; policies prohibiting inter racial marriage were formulated. Residential segregation was also enacted as part of this endeavour. Before I go on to anything critical, I have to say I watch Joy Womack s vlogs every day and am highly appreciative of the window into her life. That point was proven when the Meiningen Players performed in Russia. The Meiningen Players created not only a set, but also an environment in which they are a part of (Gascoigne 265). Russian producers saw, first hand, how far behind they were. The Imperial Theatre system spent most of its resources on opera and ballet while neglecting legitimate theatre. Chekov initially gained fame as the author of short stories while at the same time opening a medical practice. He began to write one act farces, but after writing a full length that was rejected by the Alexandry Theatre, Chekov vowed to write only trifles from then on. However, he wrote another full length play, The Seagull, which was chosen to be performed at the Alexandry Theatre for a benefit without first being read. Theatre patrons filled the theatre expecting to see a comedy, instead seeing a play that was unrehearsed and poorly performed. Audience members soon showed their displeasure and the play was a flop. Chekov left St. Petersburg and promised he would never write a play to be produced again (361). Neimirovich Danchenko was an admirer of Chekov s work and felt The Seagull would be perfect for the Moscow Art Theatre, though Stanislavsky was not sure. Chekov initially turned down a meeting with Neimirovich Danchenko, but agreed after a second invitation and reluctantly agreed to allow them to stage the play. After the art department has added colour and visual looks on figures and surfaces, three dimensional models are made on computers. Hinges are added to move the figures, and a character like Woody in Monster Inc. has as much as a hundred hinges in his face. After the models are made, they are dressed, to make a proper visualization. When making the shots, virtual cameras are used to record different scenes. Without the aid of the new technology, it would be impossible to achieve the same results. After the decision has been made on which virtual camera shot to use, the figures are animated to create the scene (Pixar, 2004a). At Pixar, they do not paint or draw the figures in the final stage, but use the ones already made. By using the hinges, the figures are controlled like puppeteers, creating movement and different emotions. This provides the movie makers with options they would not have without the new technology. The only purpose of government would be to protect its citizens from force or fraud (Reisman, George). Socialism is considered the weak; less effective form of economy. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail (Mark Perry, 1995). It is the type of organization that involves the government owning and controlling the major industries and prosperous companies in the country. The fact that socialism disregards private property rights in establishing incentives for economic development and growth is another reason why socialism fails. About 8000 years ago, humans began practicing agriculture in order to have a sustainable food source. For some time now neuropathic pain has been exceptionally hard to treat, and evidence suggests that the continuation of using ineffective opioids is irresponsible. Is it the children who have unrealistic dreams of playing in the big leagues or is it someone who has a plan and will go out of his or her way to achieve it? Both of these options can be true. Dreamers are special in this world because they have hope for something they believe in. Nothing is more fascinating than seeing an individual who never gave up and worked extremely hard to reach their goal. Having read only three sections so far, I have explored the individual s purpose and passion for the work they pursue. The Dreamers section has made me analyze what I have and want with my future career. Overall, the elements of the book defining dreamers explains the meaning of a risktaker, the hard work and dedication involved, and the passion it takes to reach your goals. Dave Isay strongly connects with his readers in the Dreamers section of Callings. Adventure and purpose surround this section especially with the bridge tender, street astronomer, and the NBA referee story. Defining a dreamer can be determined in many ways. As said before, adventure and purpose are the main components of a dreamer. The information gained from this section is that dreamers have this sense of hope and passion for the calling they pursue no matter what it is.
