Editor's Notes

  • #2 Remember Your attitude and posture is all part of how they listen to you and what you have to say. You audience will only stay engaged as long as you keep them interested in your every word and movement and off the stage. If you begin to turn off your audience take a short break and start again. Go for a quick walk out side, wash your face or review your materials so you can remain confident. Your confidence is key to making them confident in you and your messages. Think position, you know more than anyone in the room. Create that “Position of Strength” for you and your audience!
  • #3 Good afternoon. I’m Joe Smith and I am an expert in business development. I’ll be leading this workshop on Networking , How to Play the Game. I’ve spent my career helping companies succeed in the retirement planning market. I’m currently the vice president and director of retirement plans for Gamma Financial Services Co. I am responsible for expanding our asset management presence among third party administrators, retirement plan service providers and broker/dealers. I am a former member of the U.S. Navy. I have an M.B.A. and bachelor’s degree in economics.
  • #4 Impart knowledge and awareness. Assess skills and capabilities. Apply the tools, techniques and strategies to address new information and skills. Measure and monitor success to ensure a positive outcome.
  • #5 #3 has limited time and prefers to learn quickly and efficiently? #5 is open-minded and willing to learn new methods?
  • #6 Internal: (How you see Yourself) – This is based on External: (How Others see you) – This is based on
  • #7 The individual or team without a superior strategy loses. it takes at least 21 days to affect behavior.
  • #8 SCRIPT: Story about recreating yourself (Yankees & George, Seinfeld) Do you remember the Seinfeld episode when George Costanza realizes that his life is in the toilet and if he continues to do the same thing everyday, then everything will remain exactly the same? So he decides to reinvent himself. First stop is his regular diner where he eats something completely new and different. Feeling confident and creative, his next move is to walk right up to a beautiful woman and ask her out. To his surprise, she says yes. They go to a movie, where he mouths off to a group of large, burly men for talking. They back off even through they are bigger, tougher and could have taken him easily in a fight. Through his date, he gets an interview with George Steinbrenner and the Yankees. He dresses in a casual sweat suit and tells off Steinbrenner in the interview. Steinbrenner says, “Hire this man!”
  • #9 Self Esteem – Negatively or positively judging one’s personality traits, values, achievements, and physical characteristics. Self Confidence - Freedom from doubt. Assurance and authority.
  • #10 This is a self-assessment on some of the aspects of confidence we are going to discuss today.
  • #11 Optimists believe that something good is going to happen and that self-fulfilling prophecy usually does. They appear ‘lucky’ and things just seem to always ‘go right’ for them. It is not a mystery or luck. It is optimism. Luck is a matter of being optimistic. Create your own luck by being an optimist.
  • #12 That rubber band around the wrist can be snapped as a reminder. It…. Trains the brain with a reminder to stop thinking negative thoughts and to exercise control. Since it is impossible (and certainly not fun) to monitor one’s own thinking all the time, the trigger does the remembering. It should take at least 3 weeks to ingrain a new attitude.
  • #13 Action Plan for training brain Keep a trigger (like a rock) in your pocket. When you think negatively, the rock will remind you to return to positive thoughts. Take a few deep breaths and concentrate on refocusing your mind. Repeat this process every time negativity creeps into your brain.
  • #16 Requires 3 statements: Create interest in the message. Quantify and verify a fact. Conclude with a deliverable (what are you going to deliver, an improvement, solve a problem, where can they get it). Don’t waste time with personal introductions. Do not deliver your resume. Get the person to respond and ask for more information.

  • #23 Balance can be achieved in all areas of your life over the long-term, even if you can't do it in the short-term. Effective time management often means focusing your time and energy on a smaller set of objectives over the short-term, and that may not leave enough time for everything else. Avoid squeezing all area activities into a small period such as a week. The activities will lack meaning and you might experience burnout
