Editor's Notes

  • #7 System is 180’ long and this trace shows the condition of a dry cable with no connector problems. Like sonar and radar the signal has to stabilize. Always install 50’ of jumper at the front and a minimum of 20’ at the back of the sensor string so we are monitoring the flat area of the graph for changes.
  • #8 Leak detected at 60’. The dielectric change between the center conductor and outer braid (liquid displacing air) causes the echo change which causes the alarm. By measuring the time to the change we can obtain the distance to the problem.
  • #9 We are now monitoring the system with the cable wet at 60’. We are looking for changes that would signify a growing leak or a new leak.
  • #10 A growing leak has occurred with more cable being wetted changing the echo signature and the PAL-AT realarms.
  • #11 Monitoring with wetted cable at 60’.
  • #12 Alarm detected at 127’ due to liquid accumulation in the cable. This leak is detected even though wetness exists on the cable at 60’.
  • #13 Monitoring with two wet locations, looking for additional changes. System can monitor effectively with 100’ of wetted cable. After that point the accuracy degrades up to 150’ wetted. After 150’ wetted the system may not monitor since our energy pulse is low voltage and may not be able to go thru the accumulated liquid.
  • #14 Break alarm detected and located on the system. The panel knows that there is supposed to be 180’ of cable but is not only sensing 129’ which causes an alarm.
  • #15 Short detected on the cable at 129’. Signature is opposite of a break and has a harmonic.
  • #16 Point sensor activated. Looks similar to a short but the end of cable still exists and no harmonic.
  • #17 Large panel selection to allow matching up to customers needs.
  • #19 Probes can also be used with LiquidWatch panel. LiquidWatch can monitor up to 64 probes.
  • #26 Example History data downloaded from PAL-AT unit.
