  • #17 The new designed T-Connector has multiple benefits: * Easier handling of fieldbus termination. This simplifies work processes for the customer. * A Segment Protector can be disconnected from the trunk with minimal to no disturbance of traffic. NB: Of course: devices are not available during that time. IMPORTANT: Even when the trunk is certified non-arcong, a hot work permit is required for disconnecting the trunk. The fieldbus termination uses a high-availability circuitry with four capacitance. A fault of one will change the impedance of the terminator, but not disable it. This change in impedance can be detected using the online Advanced Diagnostic Module.
  • #18 This is the most important aspect of the Segment Protector (SP): Live work on field devices is permitted. Connect and disconnect does not disturb the fieldbus. The SP is enabling technology for fieldbus with multiple devices connected to one fieldbus cable. Terminals with retaining screws are now used throughout. This further improves operational availability = reliability. All terminals feature test points to which diagnostic tools can be attached without disturbing the wiring. It cannot be said enough: This technology has the greatest potential of overcoming customers‘ fear of fieldbus.
  • #21 Models: Power Hub mounted HD2-DM-A Standalone KT-MB-DMA Mobile DM-AM-KIT FOUNDATION Fieldbus has fast updates for good process control and electrically the FOUNDATION Fieldbus communication signal is robust (FOUNDATION Fieldbus uses a differential signal equal to the current draw of the device (typically 15 mA peak-to-peak, at a frequency of 31.25 Kbps). In addition to its robustness, Fieldbus provides an excellent degree of fault tolerance by having the ability to retry lost messages during the same communications cycle as the original message. That way, even if individual messages are lost, communications take place on schedule. Since any instruments connect to a single backbone (trunk) and communicate a wealth of information about the state of the plant, it’s important that the electrical physics of all interconnectivity equipment be according to specification (IEC 61158-2) to ensure segment availability. Many components can affect the communication media such as wiring type/conductor size, power supplies, temperature, etc… The primary goal of the diagnostics is to monitor and announce small changes during the shift from normal to abnormal operations. This allows the customer to move from a reactive maintenance schedule to a predictive maintenance schedule and reduces plant downtime.
  • #22 The ADM provides an “extra set of eyes” on the communication signal making you aware, when needed, that a problem is about occur. It can be viewed as a “Plant Lifecycle Management Tool” designed to optimize plant uptime. 1.) Commissioning : Primary goal is shortened and simplified plant start-up time (CAPEX $). Examples include, Cable Checkout, wiring errors (grounding, shorts, EMI, etc.), check for proper termination. 2.) Online Monitoring: Primary Goal is improved system availability and reduced maintenance costs (OPEX) through proactive maintenance. 3.) Troubleshooting : Primary goal is to i dentify complex error conditions where expert knowledge is necessary. This is done with Trending of the signal parameters, remote access capabilities, and Oscilloscope with FF specific triggers.
