The Greeks were great colonizers and travelers in Ancient Greece, establishing many colonies throughout Europe. They developed effective military tactics, like the Greek Phalanax formation, which organized thousands of trained infantry into a solid compact fighting force. One who benefitted greatly from these military advancements was Alexander the Great, who established one of the largest empires of the ancient world from 336 BC until his death in 323 BC, though his reign was brief.
