Alexander the Great conquered a vast empire from India to Egypt by the age of 33, when he died suddenly, possibly from illness or drinking. His empire was then divided among his four generals. Charlemagne later expanded the Frankish empire and forcibly converted the Saxons to Christianity, bringing western Europe closer together. The "Great Game" was a rivalry between the British and Russian empires over control of Central Asia, which the British ultimately won by establishing influence over Afghanistan's foreign policy.
