The document describes two icebreaker games - "People To People" and "Shipwreck". "People To People" involves having participants mingle until called, then find a partner and introduce themselves. 1. People To People
Explain that you want the group to mingle until you say “People To People.” When this
phrase is heard, everyone must find a partner and introduce him or herself. Shortly
thereafter, the leader will call out a position that the pair must assume. This position will
be two body parts that must be touching, for example, finger to nose, elbow to shoulder,
knee to toe. These should be called out quickly, giving the participants just enough time
to do them before moving on to the next one. After the leader calls out 4-5 of these
positions, he/she should call out “People To People” again to mix the group up. The
game can continue as long as it’s fun, but make sure to keep it clean!
Shipwreck
Hula-hoops should be scattered thought the area. Explain to the group that these are
“islands”. Everyone should be sailing around the ocean, havin’ a good ol’ time. But
when you yell, “SHIPWRECK!” everyone has to get on an island (at least one foot in) as
quickly as possible. No one may be on an island by him or her self.
When everyone gets settled in an island, tell them they have one minute to come up with
three things they all have in common. Once all groups are finished, tell them that they
need to listen carefully to what the others have to say, because in the next round, they
can’t use anything that has already been mentioned. Let each group report their
commonalities.
Have the group sail again. Remove a hula-hoop. Yell! Now tell them they have 1
minute to come up with four things they have in common. Remind them they can’t use
anything used in the last round.
Repeat again….removing a hula-hoop each time and increasing the number of things they
have to come up with. Use as few hulas as you have time and/or depending on the size of
your group.
