Campos et al studied 125 penile cancer tumor specimens and clinical records to analyze levels of E-cadherin and expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9. They found that low levels of E-cadherin and high expression of MMP-9 were independent risk factors for the cancer spreading to lymph nodes.
