This document discusses a presentation about integrated business analytics solutions using Oracle EPM, BI, and big data technologies. It provides an overview of Edgewater Ranzal, a global Oracle consulting partner, including their experience, services, and clients. The bulk of the presentation focuses on profitability and cost management, including the challenges organizations face, Oracle's solution, and a deep dive on the Profitability and Cost Management Cloud Service.
I Can do WHAT with PCMCS? Features and Functions, Business Benefits, and Use...Alithya
Profitability is a major indicator of business performance. Unfortunately, the typical financial system manages expenses and revenues from different perspectives. As a result, finance teams often rely on large, complex allocation models (sometimes “black box” systems) to provide management with the strategic P&Ls by geographical area, business unit, product, segment, and more—all in an attempt to pivot from “what it is,” to “what it’s for.” Regardless of industry, company size, or function, more strategic insight into underlying cost structures and their impact on profitability is necessary.
Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management Cloud Service (PCMCS) is a performance management application that introduces a world of possibilities for organizations to enhance financial data generated through their general ledgers and EPM systems into meaningful, accurate, and consumable information. Unlike traditional profitability systems, which require a large investment in both infrastructure and related technical overhead, PCMCS allows business users to easily create and manage their profitability systems with unparalleled speed and efficiency, supporting numerous use cases in both the financial close and management reporting domains, including IT financial management, operational transfer pricing, expense allocations, fully allocated P&L, strategic P&Ls, and operational profitability.
Attend this session to learn how PCMCS is an effective solution with benefits for every industry—one that empowers business users to gain insight into hidden profit and cost across key business dimensions. The presentation provides an overview of business needs using a perspective around corporate and shared service allocations. You’ll also gain insight into the PCMCS solution capabilities and functionality, including a comparison to other EPM tools, and we’ll share specific use cases.
Case Study: Using EDMCS to Solve Master Data ChallengesAlithya
Enterprise Data Management Cloud Service (EDMCS) is a relatively new but critically important addition to the EPM Cloud product landscape. As clients have discovered the challenges surrounding effective master data management do not go away just by moving to the cloud. If anything, the EPM Cloud transition has only further emphasized the importance of robust management of enterprise master data assets. Come to this session to hear about the practical benefits achieved by an EDMCS implementation project.
This session will briefly highlight the key features and concepts of EDMCS (note, EDMCS really is not “DRM in the cloud!”). Then we will dive into a recent project involving an EDMCS implementation at a large mid-Atlantic health care insurer in support of an enterprise cost management/allocation initiative. Challenges, lessons learned, and benefits achieved will be highlighted, along with a look at the unique mix of products and technologies involved in the solution (PCMCS, Linux, and EPM Automate to name a few). We will also touch on the interesting challenges involving dimensionality, primary and alternate hierarchies, and data mappings as they relate to an EDMCS implementation for PCMCS.

More and more, Organizations are considering off-premise hosting and cloud solutions for enterprise solutions. Other Organizations have strict policies to ensure critical and sensitive corporate systems stay within internal walls. This sessions explores what options are available for EPM solutions, including Oracle’s newly announced Planning and Budgeting on the Cloud Service.
Best Practices for Designing and Building IntegrationsAlithya
In the past five years, the EPM world has changed dramatically. The introduction of Oracle's Cloud Services has forced all organizations to rethink their EPM usage and strategy. As cloud adoption continues to grow, data integration has become a critical success factor in a cloud evolution. In this session, we will focus on two primary areas to better position your organization for success in its cloud journey.
First, we will highlight the most commonly deployed of the myriad of tools available including FDMEE, Cloud Data Management (including Integrations), EPM Automate, and the REST APIs. We will also discuss third-party tools and how they may (or may not) fit into an overall integration strategy.
Armed with a greater understanding of the tools and their strengths and weaknesses, we will then discuss the foundational elements that are the building blocks to efficient and scalable integration. We'll explore how these components interrelate to one another so that you can avoid the common pitfalls that often occur without this in-depth understanding.
After attending this session, you will be empowered by not only understanding which tools are available but also how to leverage them effectively to address your data integration needs for both on-premises and cloud EPM applications.

Secrets of an EPM Cloud Solution - How to Deliver Superior Profit Performance Alithya
Oracle OpenWorld 2019
As organizations seek to improve the quality of service and reduce costs through the establishment of shared service centers for both corporate functions and client facing activities, the need for fully allocated P&Ls as a management reporting tool becomes critical to ensure that Divisional and Line-of-Business performance supports the overall corporate performance targets expected by senior management and investors. With most financial systems organized around managing expenses on a "supply side" basis, creating the pivot from "what it is" to "what and who it's for" becomes more challenging. Even if methodologies are agreed upon, providing both service providers and divisional leadership with transparency into the "why" behind P&L charges is a hurdle. For this reason, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud applications such as Oracle Profitability & Cost Management Cloud Service (PCMCS) have been purpose-built to allow business users a mechanism to define initial models, execute them in an automated fashion, and provide transparency into allocated results and intercompany charges, allowing service providers and service consumers to better understand the levers that impact financial results. Attend this session for a case study that walks through the steps required to construct a fully allocated P&L within Oracle PCMCS. Topics covered include:
Designing a data model that enables transparency
Typical fully allocated P&L rule definition – sequencing and drivers
Leading practices in reducing rule maintenance
Self-service model validations and analytics

Baha Mar's All in Bet on Red: The Story of Integrating Data and Master Data w...Joseph Alaimo Jr
Baha Mar is the Bahamas' newest luxury resort, featuring world class hotels, restaurants, shopping, spas, a golf course, and a casino. Baha Mar has gone all in, betting big on red by adopting a Planning and Budget Cloud Service (PBCS), a Financial Close and Consolidation Cloud Service (FCCS), and an Account Reconciliation Cloud Service (ARCS). Within PBCS, Baha Mar has implemented daily operational reporting (DOR), which captures daily activity across the entire property.
This presentation explores how, and more importantly, why FDMEE (on-premises) was used in favor of cloud data management. It covers the myriad of disparate and highly specialized data sources needed to support loading detailed operational data on a daily basis. It studies the various methodologies used to streamline data integration and enrich the data load cycle.
Additionally, EDMCS and cloud data management were leveraged to reduce duplicate master data maintenance while sharing key findings about this exciting new cloud service.
FDMEE versus Cloud Data Management - The Real StoryJoseph Alaimo Jr
Are you considering or have you recently purchased an Oracle EPM Cloud Service? If so, you've likely heard about Cloud Data Management and how it can satisfy all of your data and master data needs. Sounds like Nirvana, right? Not so fast.
This presentation explores the capabilities of Cloud Data Management and its supporting technologies as well as its on-premises counterpart, FDMEE. It weighs the pros and cons of each option, including software and hardware costs, functionality, and sustainability.
Essbase’s “Best in Class” calculation engine enables Essbase and Planning to satisfy a vast array of planning and analysis needs. Whether it’s on-premise, in PBCS custom databases, or in the EPBCS business processes, creating custom logic that meets any analytical need will generate enormous value for your organization. But to take advantage of that power and avoid costly mistakes, you must thoroughly understand what you’re working with.
The Visual Approach to Essbase calculations was developed and refined over 20 years of Essbase and Planning projects with thousands of hours of training. Now, it’s been updated for the cloud and Hybrid Aggregation. The Visual Approach uses many diagrams and visualizations to walk through exactly how Essbase thinks, starting with a thorough explanation of dimensionality, the Essbase calc cycle, global calculation, and controlling calculation scope. It demystifies sparse and dense, showing how to make the block your friend in order to make your calculations (and other Essbase/Planning operations) quickly. Finally, it explains a handful of the most important commands and functions.
This presentation is for power users, admins, and developers who are either new to Essbase and Planning calculations or need to improve their calculation skills. It provides a thorough understanding of the concepts governing Essbase calculations and the core set of commands and functions that are used in virtually every calc script and business rule. It gives you the confidence to tackle new calculation challenges and write better, faster, and more powerful business rules.
Why Should I Care About DVD? Blu-Ray is the New Thing, Right?Joseph Alaimo Jr
You like Tableau and PowerBI, but you've been hearing about this thing called DVD. No, not the disc. We're talking about Data Visualization Desktop, Oracle's data visualization tool, which is part of the Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) suite. This presentation takes a quick look at OAC's suite of tools. It explores how Oracle Data Visualization stacks up against its main competitors, including a grudge match style live demo, during which you will get to take part in rating each tool! It focuses on the most important and interesting features so that you will be able to make your own assessment.
Integrated Planning Using Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service at ...Joseph Alaimo Jr
Presentation to demonstrate how a world leader in metal, electronics, and curbside recycling, implemented the Oracle Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (EPBCS) application to satisfy their forecasting and budgeting needs. The solution uses a Hybrid architecture, in which on-premises Financial Data Management Enterprise Edition (FDMEE) is used for data integration, for loading from source systems to EPBCS, and to integrate post forecast data with on-premises Hyperion Financial Management (HFM).
Predictive Planning is an element of Oracle EPM's focus on Intelligent Performance Management, which is automating as much as possible in order to free up humans to do the real thinking. Predictive Planning is advanced statistical forecasting made easy and tightly integrated into EPBCS. It includes methods such as linear regression, exponential smoothing, and seasonality. For each forecast, it tests many different techniques and creates a forecast using the best one. You might use the results as your primary forecast, you might use them as your forecast seed, or you might use them to compare to and validate human-made forecasts. You don’t need a PhD in statistics. In fact, it’s a good way to learn more about statistical forecasting techniques (aka data science).
So how exactly does it work, and how can you use it to improve your forecasts? This presentation provides a quick overview of the statistical techniques and error measures. It identifies some potential use cases from finance, sales, and HR. Finally, it digs into some examples of how to set up and implement the cube. This presentation is intended for EPBCS admins and developers, as well as Finance, Sales, and HR planners who want to improve their forecasting and analytics.

True Power of Oracle's Enterprise Planning Suite Unleashed at POETJoseph Alaimo Jr
POET, a leading biofuel company specializing in the production of ethanol and ethanol co-products, needed a platform to support its performance management initiatives and ultimately the company mission, which required generating fully integrated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow projections over a five-year planning horizon. It needed a system that could provide short-term detailed operational budgeting capabilities for various aspects of the business (i.e. SG&A, capital planning, project planning) while also delivering a flexible solution to allow for higher level long-range planning. In search of these overall process improvements and efficiencies related to the budgeting and long-range planning processes, POET turned to Oracle and Ranzal to deliver a best in-class solution using Oracle’s suite of EPM applications. A guide through POET's process using the “right tool for the right job” mantra, to unleash the true power of Oracle’s Enterprise Planning suite including Oracle Hyperion Strategic Finance, Hyperion Planning (including Workforce, Capital and Project Financial Planning), Essbase, and Financial Data Management Enterprise Edition.
FDMEE Scripting - Cloud and On-Premises - It Ain't Groovy, But It's My Bread ...Joseph Alaimo Jr
So you've made the transition to FDMEE and now you want more. FDMEE scripting is what empowers you to do more with the application. Explore how to use FDMEE scripting to enhance and streamline your integrations and how to use Jython and the various APIs within the EPM stack to take your application to the next level. Have a hybrid FDMEE cloud deployment? That's cool, let's look at Groovy and EPMAutomate and see how FDMEE can function as your automation hub.
This session will be most useful for those with a solid FDMEE foundation and some familiarity with scripting languages.
Knowledge shared about implementing and upgrading FDMEE. Tired of trying to get your FDMEE questions answered in other panels that span all the EPM technologies? Perhaps you are considering an upgrade to FDMEE, maybe you have already upgraded and are missing key functionality, maybe you are trying to understand your options for cloud integration with FDMEE, or maybe you just want to learn more about what you can do with FDMEE.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Does your company understand the true costs of its products or services?
Are costing models transparent enough? Can you easily trace back the assigned
costs to the activities and line item expenses that drive them?
Do your costing methods operate at the right level of detail?
Are you satisfied that you are allocating shared services (e.g. IT/HR) accurately?
Are people spending too much time maintaining our costing models and other
elements of our costing system?
Can people in your company quickly test how changes to commodity, input costs,
lower or higher volumes will affect our profitability?
Are you getting answers from our costing systems fast enough to be actionable?
Would reducing this process time improve our competitiveness or profitability?
Is all of the data that you need to understand true costs available in a single ERP
system? If not, what are the initial and ongoing costs of integrating that data into
your ERP system?
