Q&A List
• You need to click twice to Drill-Through to source
system. Why and can this be changed?
– TS: This is by design. The target EPM application (HFM,
Planning, Cloud) does not contain the information needed
to derive the relationship between the EPM COA and the
source system COA. This information is stored in FDMEE
and as such the first level drill must be FDMEE. It will not
change per Oracle product mgmt.
– FA: Technically you can’t drill through to source directly
from EPM application as the source information passed to
the source system’s URL is stored in the FDMEE
database.

Q&A List
• Recently upgraded to 2.4, how well does the
Open Interface adaptor work for SQL Server?
– TS: We have successfully deployed OIA against SQL
Server and other RDBMS technologies in both
11.1.2.3 and 11.1.2.4.
– FA: It works fine. You may want to analyze if new
Universal Data Adapter (UDA) fits better in your
solution. UDA eliminates the need of importing data
into an interface table first.
9. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Questions about scheduling and in particular the open interface
adaptor
– TS: The scheduling that is provided within FDMEE works but it is
rudimentary at best. Utilizing the Schedule button creates ODI
metadata which is difficult to see and harder to adjust. Moreover, the
scheduling agent lacks any sense of business calendar. If anything
of this nature is needed, then a more robust scheduling tool such as
Tidal, Control-M or AutoSys (among others) would be needed.
– FA: FDMEE leverages limited options of native ODI scheduling. We
have worked in some customers to enhance this functionality through
custom scripting. Customizations added include functionality to delete
individual scheduling, see all scheduling created, and create
scheduling using repeating cycles (like “execute every 10 minutes”

Q&A List
• Our inbound data is generated by executing Stored
procedures within the source system. Can FDMEE
somehow execute these?
– TS: Yes, the FDMEE Java API has the method
executePLSQL that is specifically designed to execute
PL/SQL either within the FDMEE or remote repositories.
This can be combined with the Open Interface adaptor to
enable a seamless integration of data
– FA: Yes you can. Passing parameters to the call is also
possible by using a parametrized call.
11. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• How to make DLRs more dynamic for Calc script
execution?
– TS: Leverage Run Time Substitution Variables (RTSV)
in the Essbase calc scripts to enable FDMEE to
dynamically pass member information at the point of
execution. Additional information on FDMEE with
RTSV is available in the admin guide as well as
different blogs
– FA: Agreed
12. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Any challenges with integrating on prem FDMEE
with PBCS?
– TS: No, the integration with PBCS works very well. We
have deployed it in a number of customers as well as
internally. The only caution is to be sure to follow the
admin guide closely for registering the SSL certificate.
– FA: challenges come up when standard functionality
doesn’t support what your requirement specifies. We had
to build a custom solution to load HFM Exchange rates
into PBCS as they are metadata in Planning/PBCS.
FDMEE does not support executing Rules/RuleSet
before/after loading data into PBCS
13. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Can I drill from PBCS with FDMEE on prem?
– TS: Absolutely. PBCS can drill to on prem systems
when integrating data through on prem FDMEE or
cloud data management.
– FA: Yes!
14. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• What needs to be done to integrate Oracle GL
cloud to PBCS using FDMEE?
– TS: Recommend contacting Gary Adeshek or Gary
Crisci from GE as they have significant experience
with this within their complex environment.
– FA: I think John Goodwin will write a blog entry about
this soon.
15. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Can you add a link to Workspace for Data
management/FDMEE?
– FA: Yes, there is a support article outlining how to
accomplish this
– TS: Document ID 2002247.1
16. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Migration approach from Classic to FDMEE
– TS: The key recommendation is to avoid a lift and shift
approach. A more thorough conversation about this
recommendation can be found at my blog entry:
http://www.fdmeeguru.com/upgrading-to-fdmee/
– FA: we co-presented about this last in Kscope16
Migration approaches for FDMEE
The Heart of the Matter
Have a look!
17. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Memory leaks – hundreds of batches (v2.3) slow
down the integration execution
– TS: Definitely recommend an SR with Oracle. While
service restarts could be scheduled or automated as
part of the integration process, this is masking a
potential underlying defect in the application
– FA: Besides SR, we always recommend to monitor
the FDMEE servers at different levels: memory,
database, resources…
18. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• How to handle broken multi period execution of calc
scripts?
– TS: This is a known issue with FDMEE currently in all versions.
There are multiple potential work arounds – modify the Essbase
calcs to execute for a range where only the start period is
passed, leverage an FDMEE script to get the ending period or
execute the integration in a loop loading only 1 period at a time.
The latter is problematic as it can cause fragmentation in the
Essbase database
– FA: If no parallel executions, you can update the calc script
parameter at run-time with the period range before data is
loaded. For that you can pass a custom value to the calc script
and update its value in table
AIF_APPL_CALC_SCRIPT_PARMS

Q&A List
• How to move HFM to Planning in 2.4?
– TS: This can be done using FDMEE data sync. This
is out of the box functionality that generally works very
well.
– FA: Agreed
20. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Can you execute HFM task flows from FDMEE?
(Consol, Allocate, Consol)
– TS: Out of the box, no. FDMEE scripts could
potentially be used to execute HFM task flows.
FDMEE scripts could also be used to directly execute
HFM consolidate and allocation functions thereby
removing the risk generally associated with HFM task
flows being somewhat unreliable.
– FA: We are investigating if we can execute them using
the CSS API
21. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• FDMEE batches executing aft batch script before
batch is done
– TS: This is a known issue with FDMEE. It was
indicated in a recent PSU/PSE that this was
addressed but my testing indicates that it remains an
issue. Additional code can be added to the after batch
script that detects the active status of the batch.
– FA: Agreed
22. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Does the open batch run in parallel in 2.4?
– TS: Yes we have utilized it without issue at a number
of clients. Issue described appears to be
environmental in nature and should be investigated by
a partner or internal IT.
– FA: Yes.
23. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Is the Map monitor report coming back?
– TS: Yes, the map monitor report was re-introduced in
11.1.2.4.100
– FA: Yes, you have to enable Map Audit in your
FDMEE settings so that information is stored in the
database for reporting purposes.
24. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Export to excel not returning all rows (2.3)
– TS: This is an issue that was resolved in 2.4. As a
workaround, a script can be created that will export
the data to a flat file
– FA: Agreed.
25. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Can FDMEE kick off FR reports?
– TS: This is not an option using out of the box
functionality of FDMEE; however, an FDMEE script
could be used to execute an FR report or FR batch
from command line
– FA: Agreed
26. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Modifying scheduled FDMEE jobs in ODI results
in FDMEE not using updated parameters
– TS: I have observed this issue as well. I have alerted
development of the issue and suggest that you do the
same. The more customers facing the issue, the
more likely it is to get addressed sooner.
– FA: I recommend reading couple of support
documents for ODI scheduling.
27. Business Analytics Solutions Provider: EPM, BI, and BD Technologies
Q&A List
• Can you customize the FDMEE landing page?
– TS: No
– FA: No
– Mike Casey: This has previously been logged as an
enhancement request.
