BYRAM DINSHAWJI AVARI
Mr. Byram Dinshawji Avari owns and operates Avari
hotels. He is Honorary Consul General of Canada in
Pakistan. He was a gold medallist in „enterprise class'
yachting in the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok and again at
the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.
Avari hotel is one of the top-notch hotels in Pakistan. It has won many awards due to the reason
that it offers best customer services in the country. It is not a onetime thing. The hotel is winning
the award for last five years consecutively, and if it maintains the level of quality that will
become the routine.
Avari Hotels own and operate properties in Pakistan, Dubai, and Toronto, Canada. It was
founded by Dinshaw Avari and is now run by his son Byram Dinshawji Avari, the CEO of Avari
Hotels Ltd, and his two sons Dinshaw and Xerxes.
Avari is actually the name of the group that runs these hotels, the real names of the hotels in
different cities are slightly and somewhere they are completely changed like in Karachi it is by
the name Avari Towers and other is Beach Luxury. While in Lahore it is by the name Avari
Lahore.
Avari's three hotels in Pakistan are the Avari Towers, Karachi, the Avari Lahore, formerly
the Hilton, and the older Beach Luxury Hotel.
Beach Luxury Hotel Karachi was founded in 1948. With its Art Deco and an open-air lobby,
Beach Luxury Hotel evokes a tropical, Miami-like setting.
Whilst a little dated and not of an international 5-star standard, the Avari-branded hotels are still
of a reasonable standard. The properties in Karachi and Lahore have the popular Japanese
restaurant, Fujiyama.
Portraits of Dinshaw Avari and his wife Khorshed hang in the entrance lobby of the Avari
Towers Hotel in Karachi, where the two largest function rooms are named after them - Dinshaw
Mahal and Khorshed Mahal.
The Avari Towers Hotel, at 17 floors in the heart of the city, is the tallest hotel in Pakistan. It
also has an adjoining Avari Plaza which is home to the headquarters of Unilever Pakistan,
representative office of Deutsche Bank, and an Audi showroom.

Policies of avari for expand their business:
Avari Towers announced to expand its business in Pakistan with new projects for different cities
besides making efforts to beat the Saudi and Kuwaiti marketing in Dubai. Being a chief guest at
a dinner reception at Avari Towers, General Manager Development, Peter Forsyth, said the
Avari Towers is planning to develop new projects in Pakistan's different cities including
Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Bhurbanand, Sargodha.
He said in Gujranwala, the Avari Towers will establish a hotel-cum-shopping mall and in
Bhurban a 130- bed hotel. He said the Avari Towers is looking forward for joint ventures in the
business. Cluster General Manager Avari Dubai Hotels & Apartments, Ramzi Assily said the
Pakistani market is important but not doing well in terms of business for the towers. He said the
Avari project was launched in 1996 which is now well-established, despite a brief period of
economic recession in 2009.
He said the Avari Towers and Al-Bashra in Dubai are l popular among the Asian communities.
He said the Avari Towers is diversifying its business. He pointed out that 65 percent of the
business, in Dubai, Avari Towers receives from tourism and the rest from corporate sector etc.
He said Pakistan is the second major market for Avari Towers besides Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and
Dubai in terms of business. He said all the facilities available in Dubai Avari Towers are offered
in Pakistani Avari Towers. Director Sales & Marketing Avari Dubai Hotels & Apartments,
Mannan Gulzar Khan, highlighted the services offered at the Dubai Avari hotels. He said
services in Avari Towers in Dubai are of global standards with five star facilities. Earlier, Byram
Avari welcomed the guests.
Avari Group Chairman Byram D Avari while talking to journalists on the sidelines of a press
briefing on Thursday informed that two such properties already exist in Islamabad. “We‟ll have
two more Avari Xpress properties in Lahore soon,” he said, adding that the group also planned to
have similar properties in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Sialkot.
The Avari properties provide all room amenities that are provided by their larger counterparts,
including gym, restaurant and meeting facilities. However, they are limited in the food service
and without a swimming pool and banquet facilities. Avari noted that Hyderabad did not
apparently have enough demand to justify the establishment of a full-fledged Avari hotel there.
However, he said he wanted to set up a three-star in Hyderabad. He added that Sukkur seemed
more feasible for a four-star Avari hotel.
He said, Avari Xpress residences and boutique hotels are being established as joint ventures.

History of Pearl Continental in Lahore:

As Every body is familiar with the name of Pearl Continental.It has a well-known and
established position in the hotel industry.
Presently Hashwani or Hashoo group owns it. This group has maintained and improved the
position of Pearl Continental.
Initially, Pearl Continental was started with a title PSL (Pakistan Service Limited).
An organization named as Intercontinental, which was consisted of PPIA & International „s
group at that time Hashoo Group had a major share in international Group and so they played an
influential role for the betterment of Pakistan services Limited (PSL).
Intercontinental management was given with this opportunity to operate this contract to manage
the business of this hotel. Pakistan Service Limited had started its business with one nineteen
eighty rooms, &two Restaurants at Lahore.
During this period, Hashoo group performed effective jobs for the development of PSL. As we
know that era of sixties to eighties considers being on era of development and progress.
Investments were made on these projects and the competition and quality was improving day by
day.
Hashoo group contributed a lot in terms of time, experience and
their performance in order to develop integrity of Pakistan Services Limited.
With the passage of time, they raised their share in this hotel. When in 1985, this contract was
expired; Hashoo group owned this hotel and renamed kit as Pearl Continental.
At this time, this was entirely owned by local groups and no foreign organization was.
Refurbishment was held of the property and effective steps were taken to further develop this
hotel. So in 1988, the foundation stone was build for the extension of the building.
This was a huge project and required a lot of supervision management and finance for the
completion of this project. Finally, with the help of management and construction team this
project was completed in February 1997.Now it has two seven rooms which includes Deluxe
rooms & Suites.
Restaurants are named as, Marco Polo café, Taipan, Bukhara, Dumpukht, Nadia. Tea lounge and
Pavilion Ice Café.

The new Pearl Continental in Lahore:

If location is really the key to success, Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore offers national and
international retailers just that. Shops are in different sizes and are centrally air conditioned with
individual controls. Display windows and door consist of minimum four beveled glass panes
with teak with mounting. Display windows have uniform halogen lighting. The installed gypsum
board ceiling is provided with electrical power points and can be modified according to display
and decorative needs. Electricity is being provided with separate meter.
The hotel„s prime generator plant provides 100% back up in case of power failure
or load shedding. Preparation for Telephone connection is provided,however the lines are to
be obtained by the tenant. Hotel is equipped with the latest technology in fire detection and alarm
system. An experienced and full fledge security department is looking after the interest of all. A
tea and coffee making facility is at the disposal of the tenants on the Lawn level. Separate
washrooms for the staff are provided on the Lawn level of Arcade as well.
