Polar bears live along Arctic coasts and sea ice, where they hunt seals. In cold weather, polar bears head onto sea ice hundreds of miles from shore to hunt, but return to shore when warm weather causes the ice to melt. Polar bears primarily eat seals, sometimes stalking their prey, and pregnant females make dens in fall to give birth and emerge in spring with cubs that they protect and teach to hunt.
