dead in our trespasses
From God, Through You… To Whom?
For we are his
                                       workmanship,
                                      created in Christ
                                       Jesus for good
                                     works, which God
                                          prepared
                                        beforehand,
                                    that we should walk
                                          in them.

I used the money from the envelope and
some of my own money to buy tennis
shoes and socks for one of my students
who is a refugee from Burma. - Jenni Mansell
I’d noticed one week that his shoes were
falling apart. The next week he was
wearing soccer cleats to school and said his
mom threw the other pair away, so his
only shoes were soccer cleats. I think he
appreciates having new gym shoes now.

We gave the money to my
husband’s nephew who is
in financial need.
          - Heather and Britt King

We gave it to Heidi Lyda,
director of LYN House, an
eastside Indy ministry to
bless someone in her
community “above and
beyond.”
          - Chad and Kim Davis
I gave it to a
                                     neighbor who has
                                     lost his job and
                                     who is
                                     discouraged.
                                                - Elyce Elder

I sent it along to a fellow who feeds the men in a
Celebrate Recovery Group every week.
                                            - Jeff Sparks
I used it to
increase my
monthly gift to
Wheeler Mission,
which I have
found to really
change lives.

       - David Young
I gave it to my mentoree from Outreach, Inc. She had
her clothes stolen.

                                       - anonymous

We bought a giant sandwich, chips and a coke at
Jimmy John’s and enclosed a note with Scripture from
John and gave it to a homeless man downtown.
                       - Kelly Wilson and Tim Porter
Mid-September we took a vacation to Virginia Beach,
to attend my 20-year high school reunion. I decided to
take the Mercy money with us, thinking we might run
across a need while we were away. I visited my home
church, Providence Friends, on a Sunday,. The pastor
announced that the "Good Samaritan" fund, that the
church uses to assist people in need, was running
low. I looked at Ryan and asked if he wanted to give
the $20 to that fund, and he agreed, so that's where it
went.
                                        - Melodi Miller
In 2008, Darryl’s
                                home was damaged by
                                storms. He needed
                                assistance.

In 2012, Darryl Fraylon was
able to pass the money in his
envelope on to The Red Cross.
I bought two musical cards , with an encouraging and
funny message for two people I know who could use a
good laugh and who enjoy humor. Laughter might not
be the best medicine, but it is good medicine.
                                   - Kathy Matthews
I bought a bouquet of flowers to give to my mother’s
beautician, Betty who kindly agreed to come to my
mother’s nursing home every two weeks to fix her hair.
                                  - Mary VanHoy
Gas money for a young guy who was stuck. His car
had run out of gas, his credit card wasn’t working. He
needed money for gas to get back to college in Terre
Haute.
                                         - Garrett Clemmer

Our friend without a place to live or a job needed a
battery for her cell phone so that she could receive calls
from potential employers.
                                    - Doug and Nancy Jesch
The $30 from Pay Mercy
Forward saved the lives of two
children. I used $20 to buy an
antibiotic for a very sick baby
with pneumonia whose parents
could not afford the medicine that
she really needed from the
pharmacy. Pneumonia is the
biggest cause of death in children
worldwide. As a pediatrician, I am certain that this baby
would have died without the medicine that she needed.
This baby’s name was Mercy, and I am grateful that this
gift of mercy from Redeemer was there to save her life.
I used the remaining $10 to
buy another antibiotic and
oral rehydration therapy for a
toddler who had terrible
dehydration because of
diarrhea. Diarrhea is another
common killer of kids,
coming in second only to
pneumonia. This little 2-
year-old came to the rural
clinic surrounded by sugar
cane fields when she was
almost too sick, almost too
late. But the medicine and - Rachel Vreeman

the rehydration therapy were able to save her too.
We bought supplies
and OTC meds for the
Dayspring Center. We
had the girls help us
pick out some things
and included some fun
books to give the center
as well.
            - The Fosters
We used it to plan our 2nd I brought coffee and lunch

with and get to know those I also took dinner to a
who live physically close to family in our parish who
us. just had a baby.
        - Peter and Jenny Baenziger - Kristen Clemmer

We used the money to buy With some friends, we
groceries to make two meals. prepared and served a meal
One for our neighbors and the
second for a co-worker of for some men from Wheeler
Ryan’s who just had a baby. Mission.
      - Ryan and Kate Brumbaugh - Peter Davis, Brittany Kiel
I put the money towards a community meal at our
transitional house.
                                           - Scott Sluder

                                      Shepherd’s Pie and
                                      Pineapple Upside
                                      Down Cake on
                                      Guilford.
Our family decided to put all our
money together to feed the Tech HS
football team ($120). This is a very
tangible way that we can love on these
kids, support the coaches, and be
"family" toward these youth when
many of their families aren't able to
step in in this way.
           - The Dorseys
I invited my Gospel 101 class to support
me and rally around me in my particular
calling as an "urban father."
 - Jason Dorsey
We gave two copies of
Letters to My Unborn
Children away – 1 to a
friend who suffered two
traumatic miscarriages
and is now unable to have
children; 1 to a high
school friend who asked
for a copy to give to a
friend who is grieving a
recent abortion.
- Shawn and Kristine Collins
I took a beloved co-worker As time passed, it came
from a previous job out to clearly to me to use it to
lunch. She was able to both ease a wrong I
vent her frustrations personally committed ,
which allowed me to be a causing hurt feelings and
listener for her. ease their financial stress.
              - Justin Perry - Tierney Destophano
We brainstormed how to spend the total of $40 to bless
someone. Some friends of our quickly came to mind, as
they have endured significant suffering over the past
several months. The loss of a job, two cancer diagnoses,
and two surgeries in the last 6 months coupled with
caring for very young children has taken a toll of them.
We decided to bless them with a gift card for a local
restaurant and free baby-sitting. They were thrilled
after we presented our idea to them and humbly
accepted the offer. Its a joy to see the Lord using this
"abundance" money to give this couple a sweet
evening together.

                                            - anonymous
We bought our downstairs neighbor an Amazon gift
card. His autistic son has been in and out of the
hospital recently, so we thought he could use some new
reading material on his Kindle during his visits.
                                   - Charles and Danielle
We put our envelopes together and bought a grocery
gift card for a single, young mom that we have been
trying to help and bless as often as possible.
                                - David and Jessica Rossi
We purchased two $5 Jimmy John’s gift cards and we
provided one card to a young girl living on the streets
and one to a Vietnam veteran.
                                      - Larry David Pasco
We purchased six food cards and we found six people
who live on the streets and we provided the food cards.
                                 - Theresa Lynn McCorkle
We purchased a WalMart gift card for a family that is
in need.
                       - Jessica, Lauren, Francoise Edwards
We got eight $10 gift cards from Calvin Fletcher’s.
Our idea was to hand them out to construction
workers and librarians in Fountain Square.
                                          - The Aalsmas
I thought about who I would give this card to and I
wanted to give it to you! It’s $10 to Calvin Fletcher’s!
                                         - Merritt Aalsma
A New Way of Life, a
ministry to the homeless and
a transitional housing
facility, is selling Red Panda
coffee as a fundraiser.
Nancy Simon bought four
lbs. and is going to use the
coffee now at various events
and social gatherings to tell
people about this ministry.
The Vanests also visited A New
Way of Life to purchase Red
Panda coffee from Floyd Wimbush

                                  And then
                                  distributed the
                                  bags of coffee to….
… our neighbors
 on Sanders Street.

I noticed a woman with fabric
squares stitching them together by
hand. Later when driving home
on E. Washington, something
(Someone?) told me to stop at a
Flea Market. Upon walking in,
the first aisle beckoned me straight
to the back where a Singer Sewing
Machine sat. I purchased it for the
woman I had noticed who was
quilting by hand.
                        - Ann Moore
I bought a MOPS
membership for the
MOPS leaders to give
away for a mother of
pre-schoolers to
participate in the
bi-monthly meetings
at Redeemer.

         - Meg Huber
My community group
pooled our resources to get a
bike for my roommate
Connie Kauffman (who is
also in our community
group). She had been
borrowing one and she was
sad when she had to give it
up. She was so excited to go
out and buy a bike.
                - Sara Gibson
We restocked our supply of
hats, gloves, and gas cards
that we keep in our trunk to
give to people we meet and
pray with on the side of the
road.
    - Peter and Jenny Baenziger
Doug Kiel was able to buy a
guitar to give to a child
who wants to learn to play.

I will pass on my love
for music, so that he/she
might be able Glorify
God with it.
I made thank-you bags for five volunteers and three
staff at two IPS schools after they had logged 34 hours
of interpreting for parent-teacher conferences.
                                            - Amy Meyer

Our community group pooled our money to buy
supplies to make welcome baskets for new residents in
east side neighborhoods. We all will pass out one
basked as new neighbors move in.
                         - Warner/Sadek community group
We received $170 in our
envelopes and donated all of that
to Project Love which is a
ministry of Horizon Central
Fellowship. Barbara was
actually able to get matching
funds from Aetna, the company
she used to work for.

- Vernon Marsh, Barbara Van Vleet
    and Adrienne Marsh
She and I and Adrienne
volunteered last Sunday after
church to help organize and
give out food to people who
came to Horizon Central .
They have a distribution the
4th Sunday of every month.
They also have a large
clothing giveaway ministry
as well.
Catham Commons located at East and St.
Clair is a beautiful green space we enjoy -
along with a variety of other dog-walkers,
sunbathers, and picnickers. One of the
orange lawn chairs went missing…
        - The Streeter Family
…and we gifted our $50 to help replace it.

 Alex and Max:
 Restoring Seats for
 the Public Good
My Dad drove to work each day
English Avenue boys club on his way

Winter was coming, cold and gray
       He saw the boys outside
        Their hands cold as ice

           Wouldn’t it be nice
To have gloves when they play.

His Chevy each year held mittens all sizes
Those boys thought they had been given
                prizes.

Daddy is now gone, generous and kind
But 2 daughters he raised with his love in
mind. Now this year a few more I buy
                                                    Daddy, I try…
I thank the deacons, for each year I find
                                               To be generous and kind.
Mittens and socks for those not inside.
                                                                   - anonymous
Vanessa and I were talking about
what to do with our money from
the mercy ministry, and she
mentioned getting something for
the kids that Luna visits. Luna is
a licensed therapy dog now, and
we make visits to Wheeler
Mission and The Julian Center
every week.
      - Sandy Blanton and Vanessa Hast
I talked to the Children's
Coordinator at Wheeler today
and she said they wanted to
take the kids on a picnic to
Garfield Park over Fall
Break. They were very excited
to have some extra money to
buy food and treats.
  - Sandy Blanton and Vanessa Hast
Our daughter, Jackie, has a couple girls that she’s
friends with across the street. Their parents recently
divorced and their mom is in school and working nights.
The kids live with their mom at the grandparents home.

We used our money to
bring the girls to church
with us and treat them to
pizza at Bazbeaux afterwards.
           - the Hall family
One family who received $250 in their envelope went
back and forth about an individual or an organization.
In the end they did both. A young man they have
mentored and walked with as he cared for his aging
grandparents and his own son is being forced to move
through foreclosure. The money they gave him will
hopefully ease the transition.

They also gave a sum of money to a local IPS school
designated toward programs that develop social and
emotional skills in the students.
That is what the Greens had to decide. In the end,
they

• Donated supplies to Life Centers/Crisis
    Pregnancy Centers

• Donated gas cards to Young Life student
(college kids) leaders at Arsenal Tech
•Donated to School 15 for
severe disabilities, enabling
them to take 20 students on
an outing to the Children’s
Museum

•Donated to a program for
preliminary research to assist
convicts in the successful
completion of probation.
