Don't underestimate the power of a smile
Dear friends of Room at the Inn,
Our Annual Report is a summation of
the activities, efforts and the support we
receive to carry out the mission of Room
at the Inn. There are a lot of numbers and
percentages used to provide a concise and
overall picture of what has taken place
during the past year. However, the numbers
do not always show the “real” difference
made in the lives of those coming to Room
at the Inn for help. That is not always easy
to quantify, but for the volunteers working
at our night sites and the staff interacting
with the clients on a daily basis, we see
glimpses of transformation taking hold and
we celebrate the positive changes taking
place.
There is inherent truth to the statement
made by one of the earliest television
motivational speakers, Leo Buscaglia. He
often talked about the power of love and
loving one’s self. He is credited with the
statement: “Too often we underestimate
the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word,
a listening ear, an honest compliment, or
the smallest act of caring, all of which have
the potential to turn a life around.”
This statement is so true and those of us
who work and volunteer at Room at the
Inn witness these random acts of kindness
every day and see how important they are
to the people we are serving.
As we reflect on the various
accomplishments of the past year, I also
want to convey
to our supporters
that there is
power in helping
others to believe
in what they
can overcome.
Accordingly, our
clients gain a
sense of accomplishment as a result of our
combined efforts to help them achieve their
goals. When we truly listen and offer words
of encouragement, we are letting our clients
know that they matter.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we
would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude
to everyone who supports our endeavors
in any way. You may not always get to see
the smiles or share in the delight when a
client gets a job, or witness the happiness
when a family moves from our shelter into
an apartment they can now call home, but
your concern, kindness and support makes
all of this possible.
PeaceandBlessings!

resources and were referred to
appropriate agencies.

Carolyn Harpole Lesly Jackson Mark Kaltenrieder Robert T. Miller Rev. Dr. Jeff Moore David Renaud, LPC, CWPM Don't underestimate the power of a smile Dear friends of Room at the Inn, Our Annual Report is a summation of the activities, efforts and the support we receive to carry out the mission of Room at the Inn. There are a lot of numbers and percentages used to provide a concise and overall picture of what has taken place during the past year. However, the numbers do not always show the “real” difference made in the lives of those coming to Room at the Inn for help. That is not always easy to quantify, but for the volunteers working at our night sites and the staff interacting with the clients on a daily basis, we see glimpses of transformation taking hold and we celebrate the positive changes taking place. There is inherent truth to the statement made by one of the earliest television motivational speakers, Leo Buscaglia. He often talked about the power of love and loving one’s self. He is credited with the statement: “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” This statement is so true and those of us who work and volunteer at Room at the Inn witness these random acts of kindness every day and see how important they are to the people we are serving. As we reflect on the various accomplishments of the past year, I also want to convey to our supporters that there is power in helping others to believe in what they can overcome. Accordingly, our clients gain a sense of accomplishment as a result of our combined efforts to help them achieve their goals. When we truly listen and offer words of encouragement, we are letting our clients know that they matter. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supports our endeavors in any way. You may not always get to see the smiles or share in the delight when a client gets a job, or witness the happiness when a family moves from our shelter into an apartment they can now call home, but your concern, kindness and support makes all of this possible. PeaceandBlessings! ValorieL.Ferlis ProgramDirector Facebook.com/RoomSTL Twitter.com/InnSTL Staff Valorie L.
