Paul Klee Noah Goldberg Period 7 English/Tang “ Everything vanishes around me, and works are born as if out of the void. Ripe, graphic fruits fall off. My hand has become the obedient instrument of a remote will.”
Vital Statistics Born December 18 th , 1879 Munchenbuchsee bei Bern, Switzerland Died June 29 th 1940, Muralto, Switzerland German/Swiss Died from scleroderma Father: Hans Klee Mother: Ida Frick
Personal Background Influenced by: August Macke Robert Delauney Part of the Blaue Reiter group The Blaue Reiter was to "heal the gaping wound that separates man from his environment.” Almost all artwork based off of Delauney’s style of expressionism and cubism which included squares, and painting in oil paints. Most of Klee’s work is based on his dreams, and his inner child
Key Historical Events Part of WWI fighting for Germany in 1916 In 1933 his art was condemned by Hitler and the Nazi party Hitler did not approve of his dreamlike paintings. Wrote a book about WWI titled Diaries: 1898-1918
Influence of the Art World Part of Expressionism, Surrealism and Cubism movements Surrealism is where Klee shows his dreams in his paintings Cubism is found in almost all works, where there is a background of different colored squares. Klee’s art is very similar to the art of a child. Taught at the Bauhaus school of art Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts, in Munich
Stylistic Traits Surrealism : feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur; however, many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact. Cubism : objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create the shallow ambiguous space, one of cubism's distinct characteristics. Primitivism : looks like art that is done by a child. Usually the picture is painted very simply, and the subjects are "flat", or two-dimensional. Simple Lines

My Original Artwork
Conclusion My artwork shows the examples of Cubism in the background, Primitivism in the stars, Surrealism in the moon, and simple lines in the building. I have learned that Klee painted in layers of colors. The most difficult part of the project was to decide what to paint. My artwork has a strong background with different colors and a star lit night scene. The weakness of my artwork is the scene, because it was very difficult painting over layers.
Thanks, Any Questions
