Andy Warhol was an influential American artist born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He pioneered pop art by applying commercial illustration techniques to fine art. Some of his most famous works include Campbell's Soup Cans from 1962, which demonstrated his use of repetition, and The Marilyns from 1964, which featured bright colors and the repetition of images of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol was one of the first artists to celebrate mass consumer culture and popular icons in his artwork.
