INFARCT SPLEEN
 Specimen of spleen showing irregular,
slightly depressed, pale area on the
surface
 CUT SECTION- Dry, opaque, wedge-
shaped area, pale in colour— base
directed to the surface of the organ
INFARCT SPLEEN
LYMPHOMA
 Specimen of aggregates of multiple
discrete lymph nodes of various sizes,
ranging from (6×5×4)cms to (2×2×2)cms
 Lymph nodes are discrete and separate
from one another
 Cut-section:- grey-white and fish-flesh like
 Consistency—India rubber-like
LYMPHOMA
TUBERCULAR LYMPHADENITIS
 Specimen of multiple matted lymph nodes
of various sizes
 Grey white in colour
 Lymph nodes are matted together due to
periadenitis
TUBERCULAR LYMPHADENITIS
TUBERCULOSIS OF LUNG—
GHON FOCUS
 Primary focus in the lung
 Soft tissue specimen of lung of size
(17×10×6) cm
showing a solitary whitish area measuring
0.5 x 0.5 cm present in the lower part of
lung peripherally which is known as Ghon
focus.
 Can be located in any part of the lung but
more often as a subpleural focus in the
upper part of lower lobe
TUBERCULOSIS OF LUNG—
GHON FOCUS
TB Lung—Fibrocaseous Lung
 SecondaryTB
 Soft tissue specimen of lung of size (19×15×6) cm
 C/S shows→→ a spherical cavity of size
(1.5×1.5×1) cm in the lower part of the upper
lobe with
 Cavity has a thick fibrous wall lined by yellowish,
caseous necrotic material.
 Lumen of the cavity is traversed by thrombosed
blood vessels
 Consolidation seen around the wall of the cavity
 Overlying pleura thickened
TB Lung—Fibrocaseous Lung
TB LUNG—MILIARY TB
 Soft tissue specimen of lung
size(17×15×5) showing multiple millet
seed sized (1mm diameter) lesions
 Lesions are yellowish & firm
 No grossly visible necrosis
TB LUNG—MILIARY TB
TB KIDNEY
 Soft tissue specimen of kidney and ureter
showing multiple chalky white deposits on
the outer cortex of the kidney
 The deposits are small in size
TB KIDNEY
SPLENOMEGALY
 Soft tissue specimen showing an enlarged,
heavy spleen measuring 27×19×7 cms
 Capsule tense and thickened
 Cut Section:- Firm with prominent
trabeculae
SPLENOMEGALY
BENIGN GASTRIC ULCER
 Specimen of stomach
 E/S – smooth, grey-white
 C/S- A round to oval ulcer with punched
out margins seen.
 Rugosities are seen to be extending upto
the ulcer margin
 Margins of the ulcer are flat and in level
with the surrounding mucosa.
BENIGN GASTRIC ULCER
TUBERCULAR ULCER
 Soft tissue specimen of part of intestine
showing an ulcer with its long axis
transverse to the long axis of the
intestine
 Ulcers may be coated with caseous
material.
 Serosa may be studded with visible
tubercles
TUBERCULAR ULCER
TYPHOID ULCER
 Soft tissue specimen of part of intestine
showing an ulcer with its long axis along
the long axis of the bowel.
 Base of the ulcer is black due to sloughed
mucosa.
 Margins slightly raised due to
inflammatory oedema
TYPHOID ULCER
FIBROADENOMA BREAST
 Soft tissue specimen of size (9×9×9)cms
 E/S – well encapsulated, lobulated,
smooth, grey-white
 C/S – solid, whorl like pattern and slit like
spaces
FIBROADENOMA BREAST
MEDULLARY CARCINOMA
BREAST
 Specimen of breast with nipple areolar
complex showing a well circumscribed
growth of size (7×6×5)cms in the upper
quadrant.
 Tumour large, well-circumscribed, rounded
 Consistency-soft & fleshy or “brain-like”—
encephaloid carcinoma
 Cut section - areas of haemorrhage and
necrosis seen
MEDULLARY CARCINOMA
BREAST
SCIRRHOUS CARCINOMA BREAST
(DUCTAL CARCINOMA NOS)
 Specimen of breast with nipple areolar complex.
 C/S – shows a irregular growth in the subareolar
region
 Overlying skin shows peau d’orange appearance
and retracted nipple
 Cut surface – chalky white appearance
 Cuts with gritty sensation
SCIRRHOUS CARCINOMA BREAST
(DUCTAL CARCINOMA NOS)
SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA
 Specimen of skin with a nodular,
hyperkeratotic growth with rolled edges
 Lesion may undergo ulceration
SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA
SQUAMOUS PAPILLOMA
 Specimen of skin with a cauliflower like
growth with irregular external surface
 Maybe pedunculated or sessile
 Pedunculated lesions are composed of a
cluster of finger-like fronds
 Sessile lesions—dome-shaped, have a
more nodular, papillary or verrucous
surface
SQUAMOUS PAPILLOMA
VILLOUS PAPILLOMA (URINARY
BLADDER)
 Specimen of urinary bladder with a well
demarcated papillary growth located in
the lumen of the urinary bladder
 E/S : irregular, growth with papillary
projections
VILLOUS PAPILLOMA (URINARY
BLADDER)
MALIGNANT MELANOMA
 Specimen of great toe with attached skin,
