This study assessed the efficacy of phage therapy against MRSA infections. The results showed that the isolated phage was specific to S. aureus as it only lysed the S. aureus bacteria and not E. coli. The level of bacterial colony forming units varied depending on phage concentration, demonstrating dose-dependent lysis. Additionally, the phage was able to survive in bacteria-free medium over time, though its numbers declined. These findings indicate that this phage isolate is a promising candidate for phage therapy. In vivo studies of the efficacy of this phage isolate are currently ongoing.

OURWORK • The bacterial-host interaction, studying the genetic arsenal of Staphylococcus aureus and its effects on the immune response of several genetic lines of rabbits. • Collaboration with international companies in the evaluation of various therapeutic me- thods (vaccines, phagotherapy) to fight Sta- phylococcus aureus infections. • Anatomopathological diagnostic service where different types of pathologies are identified and studied in various animal spe- cies (laboratory, domestic or wild). 4. FACILITIES • Experimental farm; new fully equipped re- search laboratories; necropsy room; sam- ple processing laboratory; flow cytometer; co-observation microscope room, etc. 2. RESEARCH INTERESTS • Participation in projects related to the appearance of antibiotic-resistant Sta- phylococcus aureus and to study the role played by the strains LA-MRSA and their interaction with humans. • Participation in projects related to the development of therapeutic tools for the treatment of staphylococci in veterinary and human medicine. 3. EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE • Wide experience and valuable knowledge gained from 15 years of dealing with sta- phylococcal infections from different points of view, in a multidisciplinary way, and utilising modern facilities. • Provide access to clinical cases of Staphylo- coccus aureus infections, mainly in rabbits, including; generation of mutant strains in di- fferent virulence factors; an experimental mo- del of skin infection; knowledge in various te- chniques for evaluating the immune response after infection (flow cytometry, cell cultures to assess phagocytosis capacity in neutrophils and macrophages, cytokine measurement, histological and immunohistochemical stu- dies, etc); use of bacteriophage viruses and their lytic enzymes. • International projects. • Collaboration and exchange of international researchers between groups, both in short stays and for the shared direction of doctoral theses.
