Entrepreneurship is defined as the starting of new businesses, usually by an individual who identified a gap in the market and trail blazed their way to success as sole owner and CEO. But you don’t have to share this passion of building your own business to see the value in utilising the same skills for your future career aspirations! We explore the relevancy of entrepreneurial skills for your career in this free one-hour webinar, and hear from a USQ student about how she found success by nurturing these skills and taking a chance.
When you hear the word resilience, what do you think of? Do you think of bouncing back from study let downs? Or perhaps maintaining consistent passion to reach your study goals with each new semester? By developing emotional intelligence, resilience can be a by-product used to help you through all of your study hurdles. This free, one-hour webinar will have you re-thinking your perception of resilience, open your mind to the importance of creating emotional intelligence and provide you with awareness of yours and others’ feelings to help ensure your career success.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
2. If, like your favourite pair of underwear,
your password is starting to get a little
overworn, it might be time to consider
a refresh and come up with
something stronger.
The rules of thumb
between your
passwords and
your underwear
are more similar
than you might think.
3. Like your underwear,
you wouldn’t share
your password with
your friends.
95%* of people share their passwords with others. Don’t allow
yourself to be put at risk. Keep your passwords to yourself.
*Inc.com
4. You shouldn’t
leave them
lying around.
2 in 5* people leave their passwords
unprotected every day, causing their
passwords to be stolen and online
accounts hacked!
*Entrepreneur.com
5. Some are more
obvious than
others.
‘123456’ and ‘password’ are the most
commonly used passwords*, making them the
most predictable. You wouldn’t wear an outfit
that draws attention to your underwear, so why
create a password that draws attention to your
online assets?
*Top 10 Fascinating Facts About Passwords eBook, Slideshare.
6. So, have you
chosen the
right fit?
When it comes time to restock your
underwear drawer, there are 3 things to
consider, and the same basic principles
apply to refreshing your passwords.
7. 1. Have you
outgrown your
previous style?
Just like your favourite pair of Homer Simpson
undies, there comes a time when you outgrow
even the most trusty password. Hit refresh and
embrace a whole new style and fit by increasing
the size and incorporating some numbers.
For example, ‘strong password’ could be refreshed
by adding numbers: ‘5tr0n9 pa55w0r6’
8. 2. Are they
practical?
Frilly, fancy underwear might look nice, but if it’s not
functional for a full days wear it’s a waste of money. While
you need to spruce up your password, keep the length and
complexity to something you’ll actually use and remember.
Make your password strong enough to ensure it’s the right
size to beat the hackers, but be sure not to overuse it either!
When updating your password increase the length and
complexity by having at least 8 characters to make it stronger.
9. 3. Are they true
to your style?
Is your underwear a reflection of your personality?
Classy in Calvin Klein, bold in Bonds or super in
Superman? Just as the design, colour and shape
make underwear unique, your password needs to
be unique as well.
Give your password some personality! For example,
incorporate some symbols, upper & lowercase
letters, and give Calvin Klein some personality:
C@!v1n_K!31n
