This document provides examples for converting sentences from active to passive voice in three types: 1) Subject + verb + object sentences are converted by making the object the subject. 2) Subject + verb + object + indirect object sentences are converted by making either the object or indirect object the subject. 3) Sentences containing reporting verbs such as "say", "think", "know" are converted using "it is/was said/thought/known" or "subject is/was said/thought/known to verb". The document provides over 30 examples across these three types to illustrate converting sentences to the passive voice.

A) TURN INTO PASSIVE VOICE: TYPE 3 REPORTED VERBS [SUJ+VERB+ that …]
If the predicate of the passive sentence is a verb transitive like: believe, think, find, say, report,
consider, understand, acknowledge, expect, tell, know then you can change the active sentence into
passive using two ways. Look at the examples:
a) People say that he is handsome. (present)
∗It is said that he is handsome.
∗He is said to be handsome. (TO INFINITIVE)
b) They knew he had an idea. (past)
∗It was known that he had an idea.
∗He was known to have had an idea. (TO PERFECT INFINITIVE – Have+ Past participle)
These are formal structures. They are often used in news reports and on TV.
