 Noun
 Pronoun
 Adjective
 Verb
 Adverbs
 Preposition
 Conjunctions
 Interjection
 A noun is a word that names a person , place,
concept , or object.
 Basically anything that names a “thing” is a
noun
 Example: ball , Ali , Paris , London
 Common Noun: general names for things like
planet , city , girl etc.
 Proper Noun : Specific names for things like
Mars, London, Sidra.
 Pronouns are words that you substitute for
specific nouns when the reader or listener
already knows which specific noun you are
referring to.
 Example: “Sara was supposed to be here at
eight”, then follow it with she is always late.
 Some common pronouns: he ,she, it ,they
 Adjectives are the words that describe nouns.
 Think about your favorite movie. How would
you describe it to your friend who has never
seen it? You might say
 The movie was funny, engaging ,well-written
or
 My dress is green.
 Verbs are specific words that describe
specific actions.
 Example
 Run fast.
 Go there.
 I am writing .
 Not all verbs refer to literal action, though.
Verbs that refer to feelings or state of being
like to love or to be, are known as non action
verbs.
 An adverb is a word that describes an
adjective, a verb, or another adverb.
 Example
1. I entered the room quietly.
Quietly is describing how you entered (verb) the room.
2. A cheetah is always faster than a lion.
Always is describing how frequently a cheetah is faster
(adjective) than a lion.
 Prepositions tell you the relationships
between other words in a sentence.
 Example 1
You might say “I left my bike leaning against
the garage.”
In this sentence against is preposition because
is tells us where you left the bike.
Example 2
She puts the pizza in the oven.
 Conjunctions make it possible to build
complex sentences that express multiple
ideas.
Example
“ I like chicken burger. I like beef burger. I
don’t like vegetable burger.”
Consider instead “ I like chicken burger and
beef burger but I don’t like vegetable burger.”
 Interjection is a word that expresses some
sudden feeling; as,
Hurrah! We have won the game.
Alas! She is dead
They arrived soon after.( Adverb)
They arrived after us (Preposition)
They arrived after we had left. ( conjunction)
