Speakers:  Sheri Badger, Public Information Officer/Planning, Mitigation and Recovery Supervisor, Pierce County Emergency Management  Curt Beaupre, Homeland Security Supervisor, Pierce County Emergency Management In November and December of 2009, Pierce County suffered the loss of four Lakewood Police Officers and a Sheriff's Deputy in line-of-duty deaths. The Pierce County EOC provided a place where various members of law enforcement, fire personnel, emergency management staff and others could work together to plan for the two Memorials. The Pierce County IMT-Type 3 team led the process, and in less than a week, implemented the plan for the Lakewood Memorial that hosted 20,000 law enforcement officers from around the world, and thousands of local mourners as well. The Joint Information Center utilized public information officers from throughout the Puget Sound, and on the day of the Memorial had over 50 PIOs from different agencies participate at the various media sites, the Tacoma Dome, and the alternate viewing facilities.
