2. Intended audience:
Anyone who ever felt different, out of place, weird, or
just wasn’t sure where it was that they fit into the world.
3. Setting:
The book is set in the present day and switches
locations between a Native American reservation and a
nearby white community.
4. Protagonist:
Arnold Spirit, Jr. is a young Native American who feels
like a total weirdo no matter where he goes because of
who he is and because of his life on “the rez”.
5. Plot synopsis:
Junior has to decide where he fits into the world,
especially once he meets a white teacher on the rez
who encourages Junior to get a better education at an
all white school off the rez. Already feeling weird, Junior
has to figure out whether it better to be safe in the tribe
or to take a chance on himself.
6. Audio/Visual Joy:
Sadly, there is no movie but Schmoop give a good idea
what the book is like and makes it clear that if you like
your books with LOTS of pictures, then this is the read
for your reading group. Go to the next slide.
