Isaac Moore looked for an apartment in the Minneapolis suburbs of Shakopee, Savage, and Bloomington that was not too urban, within 25 miles of work, and affordable. He chose Hunter's Ridge apartments in Shakopee because it was cheap, close to family, not in the city, and near transportation. When touring the apartment, Isaac noticed it was in a lower income area. The suburbs were still sprawling with new single family homes being built. Minneapolis and its suburbs have begun encouraging smart growth policies like carpool lanes and many public transportation options to reduce sprawl. There are also many recreational and entertainment options in Minneapolis and its suburbs like Valleyfair, sports stadiums, and parks.

2. Day 1- Looking for a place to live
Based on my likes and dislikes, I would like something not too urban. I choose this
because I do not like a landscape which is too urban, so preferably not in the city
but in the suburbs. Another constraint is close to a place of work. I would ideally
like to only have a twenty five mile commute at most, but preferably also in the
suburbs.
I looked for apartments in Shakopee, Savage, and Bloomington. I noticed a lot of
commuters heading into the city, and single family houses being built. These
houses are not fitting for me due to too much size in proportion to the price.

4. Day 2- Choosing a place to live
I chose to rent an apartment in the Hunter’s Ridge Complex. I chose this because
it is cheap, close to family, not in the city, and close to central transportation
infrastructure. When touring the apartment, I saw poorer people and lower class
housing.

5. Day 3- Sprawl
When I was looking at other apartment complexes, I saw a lot of single family
houses being built due to the suburbs. Clearly, these suburbs are still sprawling.
All of these houses have been recently built in these suburbs of Minneapolis.

6. Day 4- Smart Growth
Minneapolis and its suburbs are beginning to encourage smart growth. On the
roads into the city, where a lot of people are employed, there are lanes for those
who are carpooling and using public transport. In the city, there are a fair amount
of bus stops and subway stops. The University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities
also discourages students bringing cars on the campus because it is mostly
walkable.

7. Day 5- Things to do
In Minneapolis urban and suburban area, there are a lot of things to do. There is
Valleyfair, Canterbury Park, Mystic Lake, Target Field for the Minnesota Twins,
XCel Energy Center for the Minnesota Wild, and the newly built U.S. Bank
Stadium for the Minnesota Vikings
