The project dealt with the definition of all the characteristics of a Warehouse using the principles of the Kaizen and of Lean manufacturing. The main points of the analysis were the following:
• Definition of the optimal geographical area were to build the Warehouse considering the connections among cities that will be served.
• Definition of the flux of the goods
• Definition of the Industrial shelving needed considering the dimension and frequency of movement of the goods.
• Definition of the plant layout of the Warehouse considering the principle of Lean manufacturing and the safety norms.
• Definition of the Forklift trucks needed
• Definition of the personnel needed
• Definition of the proper heating system
• Definition of the light system
The calculus were performed using Excel and the plant layout using Autocad and Solidworks
This presentation dives into different Layout Strategies used right from Production to Retailing & discusses 4 wonderful examples clearing explaining these Strategies.
The most exciting one to see is that of McDonalds' Kitchen Layout which has saved millions for the firm.
It was part of my Research Internship at DMS,IIT Delhi done in 2012.

Last year, Nurun and Walmart Canada launched the first responsively designed enterprise e-commerce website created for a large Canadian retailer. Built on a new platform with the Play Framework, Scala and Akka at its core, this foundation has proven itself in terms of flexibility, developer productivity, performance and scalability. We’ll share some of the insights we’ve gained in creating a best of breed solution that scales to Walmart’s needs—now and into the future.
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) provides a framework to build commerce websites, allowing to manage rich content for experience driven websites, as well as taking care of the specific complexities typically related to the commerce business. The combination of experience and commerce support is possible thanks to a framework oriented architecture that allows AEM to integrate with best of breed commerce platforms as well as with home grown systems. AEM provides an API that can be implemented and extended on the specific project requirements as well as towards the ecommerce backend system of choice. This session will cover the primary elements around extensibility and pluggability of the AEM commerce framework, through some code samples explained. A specific part of this session then will be dedicated to the available approaches to support high volumes of data as well as rich content delivery.
