This project develops a computerized system to manage parking usage and online
reservations in a parking garage. It is intended to be done by a team of 4-6 graduate
students over the course of an academic semester.
1. Project Description
The purpose of this project is to track and manage occupancy of a parking garage and
allow customers to find and reserve available parking places. The system-as-is can be
described as follows. The parking garage currently operates without any computerized
system. The management has concerns about inefficiencies of sub-optimal usage of
parking space (lost opportunity/profit). Congestion inside the garage is often caused by
drivers searching for vacant spots. In addition, it is well known that a great deal of traffic
congestion in cities generally is caused by drivers looking for a parking space. Currently,
the management monitors the garage occupancy by having employees walk around the
decks to inspect the occupancy of individual spots. Some parking garages already
monitor the occupancy using a sensor system which keeps tally of the vehicle entrance
and exit events that occur in the parking structures. Our customer garage decided to
develop a more advanced system, called “Park-a-lot,” as described next.

The parking garage will be remodeled so that the parking decks above the ground level will be
accessible only using an elevator that will lift the vehicles to different decks. There will be no
other way to reach the upper decks. All vehicles will depart the garage by descending down the
designated exit pathway to the ground level. Only passenger vehicles can be parked in this
parking garage. That is, large trucks, busses, etc., cannot enter this parking garage. The ground
level will be reserved for walk-in customers. All other levels will be reserved for registered
customers that made advance reservation. The parking garage will not distribute special
electronic tags or markings for customer vehicle identification. Instead, the garage will use
camera-based license-plate recognition systems.
Customers will register at the company website in advance of using the parking garage. At the
registration time, the customer will provide demographic information and a valid email and his or

her credit card number. The customer may provide the license plate numbers for his or her
vehicle(s), but this is not required to allow registration of customers who do not own vehicles, but
will use a borrowed or rented vehicle. The same vehicle may appear under several customers, for
example different family members, or vehicle borrowed from a friend, or rented from a rental
agency. In case of a borrowed or.
Through this app, commuters will now be able to see the location of the autos nearest to them and call the auto drivers directly on their personal mobile nos. and book their trip. Commuters can now be free from looking out and shouting for autos on the streets and instead have the autos provide a pick-up and drop service.
Apart from this, the application will also provide information on the estimated fare, trip distance, travel time as well as the traffic condition on the route. Getting autos will now no longer be a worry with the new OAB app.
All people want to improve their quality of life and this can be achieved only by technology. Many problems are faced by daily vehicle users in payment based parking systems, both in open air parking system where the parking is done along the streets and in closed parking system where parking is done in closed infrastructure added with entry and exit points. Delays (long queues) and accuracy in fares are the main problems faced by the users. Many solutions are proposed to solve this problem but all have their own drawbacks. In this paper a new solution is proposed based on Near Field Communication (NFC) which makes the payment system reliable and easy.

Better public services and infrastructures in the city are needed to cope with the booming population.
City vehicles that cruising for parking have indirectly causing traffic, making one harder to travel around the
city. Thus, a smart parking system can certainly lays the foundation to build a smart city. This paper
proposed a cost-effective IoT smart parking system to monitor city parking space and provide real-time
parking information to drivers. Moreover, instead of the conventional approach that uses embedded
sensors to detect vehicles in the parking area, camera image and machine vision technology are used to
obtain the parking status. In the prototype, twenty outdoor parking lots are covered using a 5 megapixel
camera connected to Raspberry Pi 3 installed at the 5th floor of the nearby building. Machine vision in this
project that involved motion tracking and Canny edge detection are programmed in Python 2 using
OpenCV technology. Corresponding data is uploaded to an IoT platform called Ubidots for possible
monitoring activity. An Android mobile application is designed for user to download real-time data of
parking information. This paper introduces a low cost smart parking system with the overall detection
accuracy of 96.40%. Also, the mobile application allows users to alert other car owners for any emergency
incidents and double parking blockage. The developed system can provide a platform for users to search
for empty car parking with ease and reduce the traffic issues such as illegal double parking especially in
the urban area.

The record of the bookings will be forwarded to the ground
people present in the parking area for better coordination on
the booked and un-booked parking lots.

If a person wants to go to MG road in Pune then he needs to follow the
following steps:-
1. Visit our site Park-A-Lot.co.in and choose your city. (i.e Pune)
2. In the second step one needs to choose the area of visit.(i.e MG road)
3. In the third step the person needs to choose the parking spot. Each
parking spot will be numbered.
4. In the fourth step the person needs to confirm the booking and make the
payment for the same.
5. After the booking is confirmed by the customer, he will receive a booking
number on his/her mobile number.

In the initial 2 years we will be targeting only Pune city.
If we achieve success in pune city within 2 years then we
will expand to the following cities in next 5 years in their

The customer will have the option of online payment
through debit and credit card or through cash on arrival
(COA).
For each parking booked through Park-A-Lot the customer
will have to pay Rs 3 over the base rate in case of two
wheelers and Rs 5 over the base rate in case of Four
wheelers.
