Today’s businesses run on data, making it essential for them to access data quickly and easily. This requirement means that databases must run efficiently at all times but keeping a database performing at its best remains a challenging task. Fortunately, database administrators (DBAs) can adopt many practices to achieve this goal, thus saving time and money.
Every day, businesses across a wide variety of industries share data to support insights that drive efficiency and new business opportunities. However, existing methods for sharing data involve great effort on the part of data providers to share data, and involve great effort on the part of data customers to make use of that data.
However, existing approaches to data sharing (such as e-mail, FTP, EDI, and APIs) have significant overhead and friction. For one, legacy approaches such as e-mail and FTP were never intended to support the big data volumes of today. Other data sharing methods also involve enormous effort. All of these methods require not only that the data be extracted, copied, transformed, and loaded, but also that related schemas and metadata must be transported as well. This creates a burden on data providers to deconstruct and stage data sets. This burden and effort is mirrored for the data recipient, who must reconstruct the data.
As a result, companies are handicapped in their ability to fully realize the value in their data assets.
Snowflake Data Sharing allows companies to grant instant access to ready-to-use data to any number of partners or data customers without any data movement, copying, or complex pipelines.
Using Snowflake Data Sharing, companies can derive new insights and value from data much more quickly and with significantly less effort than current data sharing methods. As a result, companies now have a new approach and a powerful new tool to get the full value out of their data assets.

Symfony CMF: un nuovo paradigma per la gestione dei contenutiMichele Orselli
Presentation from phpday2011. Non esiste allora ""one cms to rule them all""?
Nel talk verrà introdotto il progetto Symfony CMF discutendo tra l'altro di:
- standard per la modellazione dei contenuti
- modellazione ed organizzazione dei contenuti
- scelte architetturali
- linee guida per l'utlizzo del cmf
Platforms like Amazon EC2 promise scalable and redundant systems for a couple of pennies. As soon as you start to build complex systems or migrate existing apps there are many knobs to set. This talk will explain how you can create and deploy reliable and redundant applications to EC2 and will point out all the little things you need to know, like how to automatically provision new servers with tools like Chef.

How a Semantic Layer Makes Data Mesh Work at ScaleDATAVERSITY
Data Mesh is a trending approach to building a decentralized data architecture by leveraging a domain-oriented, self-service design. However, the pure definition of Data Mesh lacks a center of excellence or central data team and doesn’t address the need for a common approach for sharing data products across teams. The semantic layer is emerging as a key component to supporting a Hub and Spoke style of organizing data teams by introducing data model sharing, collaboration, and distributed ownership controls.
This session will explain how data teams can define common models and definitions with a semantic layer to decentralize analytics product creation using a Hub and Spoke architecture.
Attend this session to learn about:
- The role of a Data Mesh in the modern cloud architecture.
- How a semantic layer can serve as the binding agent to support decentralization.
- How to drive self service with consistency and control.

If you’re looking to expand your business through data analysis, the Scalable Modular Server DX2000 from NEC powered by Intel and running Apache Spark can help you unlock key big data insights.
Oracle Big Data Appliance and Big Data SQL for advanced analyticsjdijcks
Overview presentation showing Oracle Big Data Appliance and Oracle Big Data SQL in combination with why this really matters. Big Data SQL brings you the unique ability to analyze data across the entire spectrum of system, NoSQL, Hadoop and Oracle Database.
The data that your business collects is constantly growing, making it increasingly difficult for traditional systems to keep up with resource demands. Understanding your big data can help you serve your customers better, improve product quality, and grow your revenue, but you need a platform that can handle the strain.
In hands-on tests in our datacenter, the Scalable Modular Server DX2000 from NEC processed big data quickly and scaled nearly linearly as we added server nodes. In our k-means data cluster analysis test, a DX2000 solution running Apache Spark and Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform processed 100GB in approximately 2 minutes. We also saw that as we doubled the number of server nodes, the DX2000 solution cut analysis time in half when processing the same amount of data, producing excellent scalability.
The Scalable Modular Server DX2000 by NEC is a good choice when you’re ready to put big data to work for you.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
