Why isnt gaze a main stream hmi
Gaze tracking has not been widely adopted as a mainstream human-computer interaction method due to three main factors: 1) existing use cases do not match gaze's natural functions of finding and showing interest, 2) specialized hardware is required which is expensive and has limited use cases, and 3) calibration hurdles are bothersome to users and difficult to implement seamlessly in the background.
Cognitive problem of smart phone
Smartphones use a mono-modal user interaction of eyes and hands that causes people to look at their phones even while walking. This is because the eyes are too busy processing the many information on small screens which uses most of the eye's channel bandwidth. To change this, designers need to create a safe mix of input/output modalities in human-machine interaction beyond just eyes and hands.

Smartphones provide compelling distractions that people find more engaging than real-world experiences. Their power comes from enabling unlimited social connections, sharing of current experiences, and access to information and entertainment through a wide variety of convenient apps. Individuals are drawn to smartphones because of their ability to fulfill biological instincts for comfort and their role in social influence, empowered by always-on internet access through an easy-to-use interface and portable device.

4) Written text allows for privacy, while spoken voice can be overheard by others.
High Bandwidth Interactions - one minute overview
High bandwidth interactions allow for more natural and immersive experiences than traditional interfaces by processing massive amounts of sensory data. This includes technologies like virtual and augmented reality that can track a user's body, voice, and eye movements at extremely high resolutions and frame rates. As bandwidth and processing power continue to increase, new forms of high bandwidth interfaces may emerge that are even more seamless and responsive.

Tablet + Pen may enjoy a broad adoption soon. If we can make it easy to exchange medium b/w paper and digital, our life will be easier.
