played a patriarchal role on women and that role was instituted
by God and nature. The house hold immediate family living in

stay in the shadows of the man . The government held large
ties with the church in the 17th century.

women. “a thing not tolerable nor comely in the sight of God
not fitting for your sex”

• One particularly interesting episode in paradise lost that is
relevant to the issue of gender and to relationship between
Adam and Eve occurs in book. By making eve the first one of
the first couple to admit responsibility and behave humbly
Milton actually pays great tributes to her and shows his real
respect for her.Miltonpoin of course is that these qualities are
not restricted to member of either sex or gender.
• It is Renaissance literature in which women behave more
sensible,retionaly and responsibly than men.
7. FEMINIST AND FEMINISM
• Blackwell Elizabeth: America’s first women doctorWas admitted in
New York Geneva College as a joke in 1847. She overcome turns and
prejudice while at medical school to learn her degree in 1849. After
American hospitals refused to hire her she opened clinic in New York

woman suffrage movement. She lectured bon women rights and
organized as a series of state and national conversation on the
issue.she and Stanton published three volumes of the history of
women suffrage about the movement in struggle.
9. IN PARADISE LOST ABOUT THE FEMINISM
• Images of women and men can effectively incite both sexes to
adopt certain self-images, attitudes, and behaviour. Male-
constructed images of women, and men, are so embedded in
Western culture that they appear quite "natural." Once it is
recognized that they are constructions, it becomes necessary
to ask not only how they are constructed but also why.
• The constructed social relationship between women and men
in the West is rooted in the Genesis story of Adam and Eve.
For the last 2,500 years it has underpinned our perception of
sex and gender and thereby influenced how women and men
are represented in art. Any discussion of images of women
and men must therefore be prefaced by an examination of the
opening chapters of Genesis.
10. CONCLUSION
• So in paradise lost Milton Shows the condition of woman in
17th century . This has also given men the justification to hold
women responsible for all misfortunes suffering by mankind.
All women are like Eve and their only chance of redemption is
to become like the virgin mary who represent absolute
obedience and parity.
