Museums and Shoah, from yesterday to today: the case of Italy, by Paolo CoenPaolo Coen
This document discusses the history and development of Holocaust museums in Italy. It begins by defining different categories of Holocaust museums, including those built on historical sites and those dedicated specifically to commemorating the Shoah. The document then outlines the early Holocaust memorials and museums established in Italy up until 1989, including sites like the Risiera di San Sabba. It proceeds to discuss some recent and current Holocaust museum projects in Italy, such as the expansion of the Maison d'Izieu and the planned MEIS museum in Ferrara. The document emphasizes that Holocaust museums in Italy serve as bulwarks against denying or trivializing the Shoah and help shape collective memory in a peaceful, democratic manner.

Charlottesville teaches a lot on the destruction of Memory. Even on the memory of the Holocaust. The presentation follows a clear thread, connecting collective memory to individual memories.

2. Proto-pop di Paolozzi
Si nutre di, è permeato da:
• Riviste, rotocalchi, giornali
• Fumetto (cfr. font, immagini)
• Porno
• Cultura di massa
• Ogni cosa appaia giovane e di moda
• Tecnologia e mondo militare, ma in senso rovesciato,
goliardico
• Stati Uniti
• Soprattutto di pubblicità e del facile consumo
3.
4.
bunk). È tradizione. E noi non vogliamo la
tradizione. Vogliamo vivere nel presente.
Henry Ford
Editor's Notes
Eduardo Paolozzi, I Was a Rich Man's Plaything, Tate Modern, Londra, 1947
Tecnica: collage.
Confesso.
Yours til the boys are back home.
Eccoci a un’altra opera di Paolozzi. Un altro collage. Evadne in green dimension.
Paolozzi spent most of the time while his exhibition was on taking a very good look at the collages of Schwitters. Several of Schwitters' works contained pop themes, but it was the actual bits of paper, which Schwitters loved – bus tickets, feathers, bits of newspaper. Of course Picasso had used newspapers before in his work, but only on the basis of 'Why paint one when I can stick one on the canvas'. With Schwitters it was 'Why paint one when I can use the real thing'. Of course young Paolozzi realised what was going on, and for the next few years created thousands of drawings, collages, ready mades, and what have you all depicting what he loved - popular ad images. Conscious Pop Art started in England from 1947 with Paolozzi.
