DATE TASK My personal contribution Evaluation of Task.

November,
2016
Creating a name for our newscast. I helped by sharing all of my ideas- I figured that we
should first think about the type of newscast we want to
be, which lead to being ‘dynamic’ and then the creation of
“Dynamix Radio.” Soon after, we decided to change the
name to “Dynamix FM” because we thought it was more
suitable.
This task was very easy as everyone shared
their ideas and then used those ideas to
create our final newscast name.

Deciding on our target audience I contributed by suggesting that our target audience
should be a young audience.
I found this task fairly easy as everyone
agreed that it would be easier for us to
create a product for a young audience like
ourselves rather than guess what an older
generation would be interested in.

Treatment for my story. Whilst researching, I came to the conclusion that it might
be a good idea if I was to do my story on religion; although
the topic area is very interesting, one hardly, if ever, hears
about it on the radio, especially one targeted at teenagers.
This task was also quite easy as I have
always been very passionate about my
chosen topic: religion.

Preparing for pitch discussion. During the preparation of our pitch discussion, we spoke
about things like whether all the different segments of our
newscast were necessary and if we should change it
anything. We also finalised other parts such as the
formality of our language and our target audience.
I found this task very helpful because it
made us think about what parts of the
newscast was actually necessary and
appropriate.
26th
November,
2016
Pitch Discussion We presented our pitch verbally with the assistance of our
PowerPoint presentation; we each had a slide to deliver
and mine consisted of ‘Diversity’; how our newscast is
unique, the radio stations that could be our competition in
real life and why.
Although, it could have been rehearsed a
few more times, our pitch went very well
as we got our ideas through and delivered
all the information equally.

Audience Brainstorming and Profile:
Female.
I helped write as well as edit the script as a whole and also
recorded half of the script- which was then used in the
video made.
The video was produced with an iPhone as
technology was lacking and was not
available in that time.

The preliminary task I edited the script and also recorded my voice to be a part
of the task.
I learned the basics of Audacity which
became very helpful later in the process of
the production of newscast.

Preliminary Task Feedback Although we had a good use of interactivity and a friendly
tone, sometimes we would result in talking too fast. In
addition, we were also advised to change or choose
another appropriate jingle for next time.
This task was helpful as it showed the
flaws in our product that my group and I
did not notice.
06th
January,
2017
Risk Assessment This was mostly created to prevent any equipment from
breaking. For example, Dictaphones, Android or Apple
devices and cameras.
I had a member of my group with me every
time I recorded an interview. Thus, if there
was a chance, (which there was not), that
anything clumsy was to occur, a member of
my group would be present to prevent
such things from happening.
21st
March,
2017
Recording my interviews I used my phone to record as the sound quality is much
better and easier to use than, say, an old fashioned
Dictaphone.
The recordings of my interview were very
successful as I could understand and hear
everything the interviewee was saying.
22nd
March,
2017
Soundbytes I used the Mac computers at school to edit my interviews-
the Audacity software was very easy to use as I only
needed to ‘highlight’ and ‘cut’ to delete any unnecessary
parts of my interview. Therefore, leaving with me 2
soundbytes- 1 from each interview.
This task was intimidating at first as I had
almost no practice with the software (by
myself), but after some practice I realised
that this was very easy and managed to
receive perfect soundbytes.
23rd
March,
2017
Sequencing our newscast We had to consider some codes and conventions while
doing this task- a regular action in radio is that important
news always comes first thus leaving us to decide between
the prison break story and the cryogenics story. In the end
we decided to go for the prison break story because it was
This was a difficult task as we had to
decide what would be the most
appropriate method of doing this.
However, we came to the conclusion that
we were going to be delivering the most
more urgent and current. Compared to the cryogenics
story which was more sensitive.
serious stories first; the first story that is
broadcasted is the prison break story; this
is because it is very vital and up to date.
We then decided on the cryogenics story,
followed by the story on religious
ideologies and finally ended with London’s
growing nightlife.
10th
March,
2017
Final Edit After the first attempt at editing our product, it was still
too long. Therefore, leading us to tryand cut up to about 1
minute of our newscast without making anything
confusing for our audience (when they listen to it). We all
contributed by pointing sections that we thought were not
as important as others, for example if a news story had
repeated something it was cut out. To edit this we used
Logic Studio.
Our editing was successful as we had
managed to cut it down to the
conventional duration of around 5
minutes; if our newscast was too long- or
rather a few more seconds longer- then it
would eventually bore our audience.

March,
2017
Audience Feedback on the Final
Product
Every member of Dynamix FM presented the final product
to a person of different ethnicity and age, and then
received feedback on anything they liked and disliked. For
example, the person I had presented the product to was
Heba Milan, a Moroccan 16 year old.
This audience feedback was by far the best
feedback we have ever gotten; although
there was one person that left a few
negative comments, every other person
that listened to our newscast had many
positive things to say. Therefore, showing
how we succeeded in creating a newscast
for a young audience.
